New rubber! R888R this time - I ordered A052 but it’s just impossible to get ANYTHING at the moment…. I’ve always been happy with the Toyos on my S2 so will see how these go
You know that feeling when NOTHING goes right? Lol! Well, I got the tyres fitted to the alloys - but the wheel balancing weights (quite slim, stick on ones) catch the calipers on the front brakes as the wheel spins - just a tiny bit, but it’s obviously not good enough! Dang it!
Options now, as far as I can tell, are to either revert to my OEM sized front discs which means I can take out the caliper spacer and then they’ll clear just fine, or to just ask them to balance the wheels again, without sticking anything so close to the ‘face’ of the alloy on the inside… neither solution is great, but I don’t know what other options I have?
A question… is it a bad thing to fit my larger Alcon discs (and caliper spacer - currently on the front of the car) to the rear of the car, as the rears have lots of clearance, and swap the OEM rear discs to the front? Is that silly? Doesn’t sound quite right j my head, but would solve the issue?
Can they not stick the weights slightly off set to clear the brakes?
I wouldn’t fit the bigger disks to the rear and have standard on the front, I might cause an imbalance to the braking.
I think I’ll have to mark out a ‘safe zone’ on the inside of the alloy for them to stick them within… the calipers are big old chuffers and there’s not a huge area that doesn’t sweep past them - but the alloys internal profile does offer a little extra height after a couple of inches, so I guess it would all be fine?
There’s always something, lol!
Still waiting for brackets to mount my Cup CF wing to the uprights - been about 10 weeks all-in so far… feeling very frustrated with not being able to finish any jobs recently…
Managed to get them on the car - still need to take the fronts to be re-balanced with a ‘no fly zone’ for the balancing weights, lol! They do look pretty cool - colour seems to go nicely on the car
They look great
Last pic really shows how close the calipers are to the wheel rim.
Nice pad (house) as well!
So, I got playing with things… I noticed that the standard alloys also look really cool when they’re different colours! I went from this…
…to these two variants just to check - I like them both! Red may be hard to live with though?.. but it does look pretty special!
I am not digging the red tbh.
However your car and you do what you like.
I’m always a sucker for bronze, TBH… I just thought 'well, seeing as I can just spin the colour wheel and choose any colour to see what it looks like, how does red go?" and I actually don’t hate it… but I’m not sure I’d ever have the balls to do it… Leave them black is by far the most likely, paint them bronze has a slim chance of happening though…
Have you tried white?
Admittedly a pain to keep clean but curious what that might look like
Win.
Absolutely love that!
I could not see how close your callipers are to the wheels but, when hot on track they may then rub. I had that issue with my S2 with 4 pot brakes and the twinspoke forged wheels. No problem on road but lost a track day. 2mm spacer fixed it for me.
Here you go mate! Sorry they’re not ‘awesome’ quality, but… yeah, they’re representative
(couldn’t resist trying other colours, lol!)
You hadn’t replied when I saw this so I just masked up the front wheel and then came back…beat me to it! I know what you mean about trying other colours, it’s bloody amazing the difference just buggering around with the HSB sliders makes. Anyway @johnfishcurtis , think if it was my wheels being painted I’d want a high res photo of the car and some time spent doing the photoshopping to be sure.
They look fantastic!
