Speedy K blown up !!!

Speedy if you want the info it’s on moremonkey.com

Thanks, Frank - I’ve checked out some of the posts there. I’m looking for European tuners, as it’s so much easier (shipping / return of faulty products / European law and guarantees, etc.).

Do you mean to say the Toyota specialest Bemani don’t have a clue ?

Bemani have their opinions seem very different to yours. I’m just asking for more views.

If you ask on Eat Me you will be speaking into a large void…but they will be able to help you with painting your shift knob and give you great tips on how to shave your cat…

Its not that nobody wants to tune the 2ZZ its more that its just not a very popular engine. I’ll ring Warren at Piper in the morning.

couple of engines here—

Depending on the extent of the damage I would seriously consider going for a bullet proof Honda conversion and sell the Bermani bits.

David.

bullet proof Honda conversion

Nice idea, but not street-legal here in Switzerland.

Speedy nothing is bullet proof, ya just get a bigger bullet. Of the parts that you’ll need it’s pretty stright foward just replacement…You just need a good parts replacer…Charlie and I did some tuning on his S and a few tweeks to mine…A proper “Stock ECU” tune is avalible now for any Lotus 2ZZ engine…

A proper “Stock ECU” tune is avalible now for any Lotus 2ZZ engine…

??? Not quite sure what you mean here.

A shameless plug for my buddies ECU tuning

If valves/springs and the oil pump are such weak points, it seems strange that no firm in Europe seems to offer upgraded ones.

IMO, the valves/springs are perfectly up to the job given the engine isn’t buzzed above its rev limit (which you did, when the damage occured)…

valves/springs are perfectly up to the job given the engine > isn’t > buzzed

I think we all agree on that but I was considering other means of protecting my investment too.

Btw, I asked Toyota how much for a new engine today.

Exactly the same price as my Lotus dealer is offering.

Amusing aside: when I asked the guy in the Parts Dept. why they are so expensive, his answer was that “they have to be especially, individually made, whereas normally they are made together with the chassis” (!) Er… yeeeees!

Maybe try Silverstone performance? They seem to be one of the only Toyota Specialists in the UK and has a history with Toyota Motorsport.

Can’t see anything about valves or pumps there…

No disrespect to SP but I believe they’re more involved in bolt on tuning conversions.

Piper recommend Eibach springs

but the only place I can find selling them on line is Forcedfed…

There is a Swiss distributor though…

The part no is 20407.116 for a set of 16.

Might be worth a quick phone call? Matt appears to have good experience with Toyota engines.

I’d always thought that Fensport would be a place to try if you were interested in general Toyota tuning.

Great work! Thanks for that. I’ll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say

Glad to see that the European dealers seem to get the same training as the homegrown ones!

Progress!

Spoke to the chief mechanic at my Lotus dealer. He agrees that the upgrade is rather pricey and also that the Bemani logic is a little strange re. valves, etc.

They will get the old motor out next week and remove the head to see the damage.

If it can be re-used (but don’t get your hopes up, I’ve been warned), we’ll fit tougher valves and springs (sourced from Japan by the dealer, so no warranty probs). Then I’ll have the old (but upgraded) head on the new block.

If the head can not be re-used, I’ll have the stock new head put on with the new block.

Seems the simplest way forward.

Do you mean to tell me your dealer is going to source parts fron “Japan” when you could just call monkey wrench racing and have the parts you need sent FedEx the next day…yep that’s using your cheese…why ask for advice when you don’t take it…good luck you are gonna need it…
