Well I just make the levels at Goodwood, one of the most Stalanist of noise Police Tracks.
I have a 30x8" rear box and a silenced de cat which from memory is 5 1/2" by 40cm. I doubt Jim could fit a meaningful silenced decat in as his lovely manifold uses a sweeping lower angle for better flow, rather than my 90 degree jobbie.
Still, he’s a magician with pipe bending. How deep are your pockets
PMSL
No that was supplyed by Ryan the man from Syvecs!! I could have had him tweek the map to have BIG flames but decided not to. The map in there is the eco friendly one, believe it or not…
Dave knows the reach of the internet.
NOISE is a huge issue now, it features in almost every e-mail enquiry I receive and a comment like - nice exhaust but too noisy - isn’t very helpful when I already advised him of this.
De-Cat pipe on an SC is stupid if you want to meet db limits. Not advised on N/A now tbh but Johhnyfox has been ok for most circuits with his system. Be interesting to see (hear!) how he gets on with his tuned motor now though.
Yes, I have a Silenced De-Cat and yes, I have a 3rd silencer(!) for the hi-power set-ups running at say, Bedford. That’s how crazy it’s getting.
661: yes, to achieve that length of silencer you have to mount it way up out of the diffuser “tunnel” and use very tight radius bends to exit the manifold and enter/exit the silencer. Close to the boot floor with a chamber means a lot of heat in the wrong place (unless it’s a dedicated track/race car).
70mm dia system was just too much I guess Ade! Why not go back to 63.5mm? Easier to silence that bore and you won’t lose much power (if any - as boost will be increased).
Spot on, Jim. With the OEM diffuser it needs to be very high and I had a schomky boot experience on the dyno. With the flat diffuser it is now mounted lower and I’ve gone a bit OTT with heat protection.
Now, now guys lets stop the bickering. There is no meat here to be pulled from the bone.
The simple fact is you make custom exhausts Jim. It doesnt matter how much you try and beat your knowledge into the customers head, if they say ‘jim, make me an exhaust to x,y and z spec’ and then they come back to you or go on a forum saying say its too loud, too quiet, too whatever, who fault is it? You just taking it a little too personally, you never going to win over everyone with your products no matter how good they are, thats business and you have been in it long enough to know this.
Unless you standardize the range you manufacture and have very clear categorized products and no ‘custom stuff’ you will always be open to bad publicity from those who arent able to man up and say - actually its my own fault!! Im certainly not saying that is the case here, Dave isnt slagging your product, seems more to me that he has educated himself… You know what its like, sometimes you just have to learn the hard way no matter how many people who have done it before tell you not to…
I don’t want to change it, I plan on sending you the rear box back next winter to make me a 2nd bolt on silencer to go back across the car again the other side of the number plate plinth, this I hope will fix my exhaust noise issues, now what to do with the induction noise?
Roll cage here and awaiting fitment
New charge cooler here and also awaiting fitmnet (will be done at the next trackday, that way we can log intake temps and boost pressure and have good useable data).
Nice big / longer diffuser in progress.
Everything else on the list is still in the planning stage but will happen this year, I hope it will ALL be done for the gathering at Donnington.
