Ongoing Elige/Exise build (THIS WINTERS STUFF ADDED)

New chargecooler? I thought your Pro alloy one with the different pump was doing the job? What have you gone for?

Using a PWR Barrel cooler and it works really really well, however, when doing the mapping we tried a pro-alloy chargecooler, it only made about 3-4 bhp difference at the top end so no real gains to speak of, but between about 5500-7500prm it was about 12-15 bhp. The pro-ally cooler gave about 1psi extra boost pressure (less restrictive) with every thing else being exactly the same (Same car , same day , same dyno, same mapper etc etc etc). It will be changed during the next track day. We will then have before and after data logs of temps and pressures.

I know that its easy to travel a well trodden path, however i like to know why i am using something, not just becuase someone says i should, It will be the same with every mod i do to the car. Not totally science based but definately with some logged data.

Lots of thing to try out like
Sequential gearboxes,
Diff manifolds
Diff silencers
Diff fuels inc e85, 101 octane etc
Diff calipers and disc set ups
Diff master cylinders
Alernative superchargers
Diff compression ratios

The list just seems to grow with each thing i try and each time i drive the car, Bloody great fun actually…

All i can say is what ever I end up with will be for a good reason, ie bigger, better, faster, and if all else fails, because i want too and because i can

Dave, stranger!

That is great!!! Looks really COOL!

Since you are planning Donny, how about fitting some Carbon brakes for old times sake!!! :sunglasses:

I hope to be there too! Lots going on at the mo and still on my way to getting fit again!

Cheers, Pete.

Interesting.
10 degrees increase in charge temps is a 3% loss of power.

As the charge temps goes up the ECU will be retarding the ignition for safety, that will be where the loss of power comes from.

Thanks Einstein ; )

my wish!

Well I finally road tested the car with its new Exhaust and a sequential gearbox fitted.
two observations
Its quiet, but I suppose it will be with this much silencing

I also like the welding, its lovely

Sequential gearboxes are just bloody ace…
The gearbox is not yet sending info to the ECU, but hopefully it will do on Thursday when we attend the rolling road again.
Need to check the maps for fuel and ignition as the exhaust id very very different to before…
If time permits we will also be see what effects the cam change point have on torque, after getting the flat shift and throttle blip for the gear change working (fingers crossed)
Also fitted a 2-11 diffuser, I like it…

Looking good matey

Nice!

When you next out and about Dave?

Testing on Sunday at Blyton park… Been invited by the nice gang at Nyloc.
Really hoping the noise meter man is on site and doing his job!!!

Bloody stupendous.

It gets better…
The new exhaust has made no measurable difference to the power output.
Noise output is a lot less, Should have a better idea of the actual db’s after Sunday’s track day

can’t wait to hear how it goes, hopefully quiet, then i know where my next exhaust is coming from

Dave!

Looks Gr8 M8!

Have you considered if you need some heat protection for the lovely Nitron Toe Links from the exhaust? It is bloody close to them! :open_mouth:

Pete
The angle on the photo makes it look really bad but its about 5 inches away

Had a fantastic day at Blyton park with the car and…

The exhaust appears to be a success
96db static at 6000rpm
88-91db drive bye (They have a sound meter permanently switched on during track days) These are the lowest and highest from my car during the day.
The sound meter is set at 20m from the circuit.
So I asked them to try from a bit closer with the hand held device and he got readings as high as 93db drive bye.

We tried the car with the second silencer removed but didn’t bother with the noise test!!!

So the plan now is to remove the exhaust and have a look inside them, with the sequential box working a treat and doing almost 140 miles its worth a look I think.

This is by no means scientific information but a good start on the road to running high powered cars at some of the quieter circuits.

Apparently, according to spectators that I trust, the biggest noise on my car is the whine from the straight cut gearbox and the supercharger, and these are a whole new challenge to sort out

Oh and I love sequential gearboxes for track use. Its made the car very very clunky in the paddock/ on the road but on track it is to die for.
JDS and I have done a lot of work on the external components of the gear change mechanism (lever / cable/ cable routing/ position indicator etc)
So the gearbox works a treat, no missed shifts all day, So quite a good start for the Quaife seqential

The Syvecs ECU is now monitoring gear position and with the installation of a load cell in the top of the gear lever it will have clutchless flat upshift and clutchless throttle blip down shift.
Will keep you all posted of progress as things happen

That all sounds great Dave!

Excellent report Dave, gearbox sounds very interesting!

A sequential box would be the uber icing on the cake for your car Jonny. I reckon back in my old K series days, my sequential was worth about 40BHP
