Shiny shiny and oh bugger!
Not deep, just slight surface scratches. May post a picture if I get time.
You should be fine mate if they are just surface marks. Lets see the pics.
I am surprised your new intake doesn’t have any nicely radiused inlet trumpets inside the plenum??? Is there a reason for that?
Yea they are Sean, just cant see it, very smooth rad mate. These fella’s pride themselves on bench flowing everything, gave me all the info with regards the polishing etc. The NA massive doesn’t get any better
Here you go…
ah looks fine (in my non professional opinion)
Agreed, will be fine.
Cheers fella’s I was kind of shitting myself tbh.
So and no laughing I’m going to build the head myself I reckon. And the give it to either John at JSR or Stephen at Track-Club to put right lol… Watch this space!
If you are at all concerned, get it skimmed for peace of mind.
How hard will you kick yourself if it didn’t seal properly and failed?
So if I shave another.1mm or .05mm off, what will this do to the head? Will I lose or gain, will it higher or lower the compression, will it fuck it all up…for the love God will someone tell me wtf is going on lol
It’ll raise the CR further, and also reduce your valve clearance.
Get a SC or Turbo Jonny and stop sodding about!!!
Yeah, as has been said, CR will rise and your valve to piston clearances will reduce. Do you know what these stand at currently? plus its just good to have as much meat as possible on your head (no pun intended)
Obviously without seeing the head in the metal its tough to say. You could always take it back to your skimmer and ask their opinion.

Would be my choice as well, but the pictures look like there is nothing to worry about.
The more you remove from the head the closer the valves will come to meeting up with the pistons at high revs and destructing the engine, you might find you already need to machine valve relief pockets into the pistons to stop this contact? The higher the lift and duration of the cams also affects this as well.
arern’t the HGs of a material thats designed to swell into such imperfections anyway?
That’ll be the K series Dairylea ones
Can’t wait to hear this new Motor in action
SORTED!
Sorry to say I’m in agreement with Quo … Just force feed a standard motor and save all the aggravation in trying to squeeze another 20 brake out of an already very highly tuned n/a
sorry Jonny …
For what It’s worth ,I’d just fit that head and let the gasket do It’s job…

I reckon I may do Jonny, anyway I’ll let the engine builder make the call. I’m going to send it off. I’m also going to attempt a head rebuild after I’ve taken one apart, that being the one coming out, probably an easier way to learn.
This engine will be built by Christmas, it will sound epic if not a little loud with the air intake now right behind my head
