Mid Engined Race - Silverstone 1st July

Well done to the VVR boys for the win, & Gav for finishing his first race. Both cars look suberb in the pics

Tim.

Considering the day VVR were having first thing in the morning this could not have been a better result for them, Im sure this will boost Russ’s confidence to the max and we will be seeing him at the front of the pack much more often!! Again, well driven guys, you did an excellent job (as did your pit bitches)

I had a great weekend myself, managed to get through my first race without incident and took the chequered flag :yipee:. The start was the scariest bit but Im sure that will all come with time… I eventually finished 10th out of 14 starters, but 4 didnt finish so back of the pack but across the line . That said, I was (seriously) lacking power on the 3 big straights and suffering from a poor set up choice for the race itself. Just couldnt get any power down on the fast exit of Copse and nearly lost it big style about lap 3 or 4…Arse end just wanting to come around with the slightest touch on the throttle !! Annoying thing was tht I was going 2 secs a lap faster in practice the day before and going really well through the first corner… Never mind, the main mission was accomplished, and will be really looking forward to Pembrey next month with it being a little tighter and twistier.

I’d like to say a big thanks to Graham and all his staff at Plans for the support they kindly gave to me for my first race event and the work they have done on the car so far.

Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank everyone in attendance from exiges and nyloc for all the kind words of encouragement that was given. The most memorable part of the race which will stay with me was the tremendous round of applause I got when entering back into the pits, anyone else would have thought that I had won!! That really made my day guys, thank you very much

WHat happened result-wise?

or if that’s too busy then web page

It really was a day absolutely packed with awesome racing, real heart in the mouth stuff, especially in the endurance race .

To sum it up… Great atmosphere, Great cars , Great day .

David

Great Day of racing, Well done to Russ and Graeme on there fantastic drive and the Pit team including sean who managed to do a super fast changeover/pitstop and put them in front after everyone had done the pit stops. Well done to Gav on his first Race (very respectable) and to Steve who was also having handling problems through the day. Great to see you all having fun

unfortunately Sean and I didn’t have as much luck on friday, first session alternator belt packed up after 4 laps, second session the water pipe popped off and after 5 laps. In the third session sean had a nose bleed so I had another blast and the gearbox packed up after 3 laps whilst I was driving unfortunately there was no way of getting it sorted before Saturday. Besides all the trouble we had we still managed a 1:07 so the race would have been interesting if we could have fixed it before Saturday

after everyone had done the pit stops.

Didnt they pit before the leading Doe/Gugliemi Exige ?

The pics say it all - we had a great time and after a dire week of sorting problems on the car it seemed like we would not even be out, tba. The misfire reappeared in the morning qualy so to get from that to a win seems little short of miraculous - and as usual thanks to the Edwardz we got out after several more problems throughout the day. We also had a temp on the team who lent us half of his car to help us keep going and got his hands dirty as well - major thanks Sean!

Also Graeme made it easy by bringing the car home in 4th and then exiting the car quicker than a twenty stone bloke has any right to!

Nice to see Gav finish and David turn up to support - I hope Pesky did not scare you too much when he demonstrated his newly orange Exige - and I don’t mean his driving…

Nice pics there Nick and Mike - we have printed a few out and are taking them to Le Mans as proof.

Well, we are leaving the Edwardz Hotel shortly for the ferry so see you all soon at Pembrey. Oh, can someone keep their copy of Motorsport News next week for me please?

Cheers

Russ, Dad, Uncle Martin and young Steve.

Well done Russ & Graham - sounds like a great race and the usual Exigers support - and good work from Gav !

Bad luck Sean, I hope its something silly and can be all sorted again without too much hassle …

I hope Pesky did not scare you too much when he demonstrated his newly orange Exige

It was monu_mental_ fun

Congratulations Russ!

You can’t imagine how much reading about all you guys track adventures makes me want to be there.
Maybe sonme day

Congratulations, Hopefully see you at pembury, if I can find it!

Sorry, I forgot to mention this earlier, but

Id like to take the opportunity to publicly thank Pesky from the bottom of my heart, it really was the most incredible end to what was an already incredible day, Ill never forget that experience and the wealth of emotions that it conjured up, the feeling you get from an Exige is something that I can’t even begin to describe, its such a special carThank you, so much.

David

I guess Dave has already summed up my weekend. The alternator belt going is just one of those things I guess as was the water pipe blowing off. But when the gear box bust I was a little annoyed. After all I had only just had the box rebuilt, although I am 99% sure what has failed now was nothing to do with the rebuild.

Basically I lost 1st, 2nd and reverse. In the Quaife sequential all of those gears use the same selector fork and then there is another selector fork for 3rd through 6th. So we think either the selector fork is broken or the pin that holds it in place has bust.

I hung around on Saturday and helped Russ and the boys out as much as I could.

I had a really good day actually. The Edwards boys and I seemed to be flat out on the car all day, and it was awesome for all of that work and great drives from Graham and Russ to end up with a win.

I was that fired up that I left the track at about 6 ish, got home by about 7:45 and I had my engine and gearbox out by 10 ish.

I will be off to see my gearbox man first thing in the morning.

This may be a slight blessing in disguise as when I took the gearbox off there was a small amount of oil in the bell housing. So I took the clutch and flywheel off and it looks like my crankshaft oil seal has just started to weep, so I will be throwing a new one of those on while I am at it.

Was great to see everyone again and thanks to everyone who helped me out on Friday!!

Was a brilliant day & great to get a result especially after the demise of Sean’s Exige & Davids 340R

Congrats to Russ & Graeme

Well, took my gearbox to my gearbox bloke this morning. We took it apart and it’s F****D. The two gears that we replaced last week out of precaution as after 4,000 miles the dogs were about 60% worn (1st and 2nd) are now completly worn away after no more than about 50 miles. We think this accelerated wear resulted in the box throwing itself out of gear which inturn broke the selector fork pin.

Our only conclusion is that the two new gears sent from Quaife were not hardened before being sent out. We are getting them hardness tested and then I guess it will be a heated discussion with Quaife if it does turn out that they are soft.

Ho Hum

speechless

Wow!

You’d guess Quaife knew their stuff. I certainly would have trusted whatever they said or sent me…

Congrats and commiserations where appropriate

Looks like you all had a superb day

speechless

'course you are. You broke it!

lol!! All that rough gear changing destroyed the hardening you car breaker
