Lotus Motorsport 260 upgrade

Hmmm … I was going off Forges website that states…

“Our intercooler is a direct replacement for the Lotus Exige S supercharged. In line with the Lotus Sport intercooler that is available to upgrade the 218bhp Exige S to the same specification as the Cup 240 /260 models, we have increased the dimensions of the intercooler.”

Here’s a direct link clicky here…

That’s as much as I know I’m afraid…

Hmmm interesting. I might give them a call and see what the deal is. I have to say that I would be very tempted with the Forge as I’m sure Sinclaires / Essex Autosport would fit one for me.

Question is, do I really need any more power?

The forge website is wrong, the dimensions are increased in line with the uprated lotus sport intercooler as fitted to the cup 255’s. The have just stated the wrong cars as having the 255 cup IC.

Boothy

If you still have the standard intercooler on your car ( same as a 220 )… it is seriously out of its depth !!!
That’s deffo your next mod … very easy to fit yourself …

I always thought ALL cup cars had the bigger cooler . Maybe Lotus,s parts bin was brimming with small ones !

And I bet you thought your “modding” was over ???

It’s not so much about “do I really need more power” …When the ambient temps are higher you WILL get serious ECU intervention … aka heat soak , and the car will feel pants … OK , your better roof will help somewhat , but its something that’s in the post !
Chargecooler may be an option it you want to go further ?
Have fun muchly

Haha yeah I did think my modding was over. Think I might get one of those in the New Year when my bank balance has recovered a bit. Christmas, New Year and car upgrades has been expensive

Then a slip diff ??
Lool …

 Lol! I knew I shouldn’t have joined this forum

Hmmm perhaps I’ll just see how I get on with my current set of mods first before going to the next thing haha.

It’s funny but after I chopped in my Elise SC for the Exige, I said to my other half “don’t worry, this one has plenty of power, there is nothing I need to change on it”…famous last words!

Like it !!
Wait till Pesky chirps in … he,ll have you trading in all yer mods for tuition …
Thing is … he is somewhat right …
Enjoy your journey m8 … we are only here once …
I for one am enjoying “your” thread !

 Never enough power

Oh don’t worry I’ve spent quite a bit of time doing my driver training. I’ve done load of days with Don Palmer and quite a few at Lotus as well which included one to one tuition from Alistair McQueen

I’ve also completed my IAM and ROSPA qualifications for road driving a few courses with Cadence and Paul Ripley. Next year I’m going to go for the course that gives me membership to the HPC (High Performance Club) if I can pass the two day test

The only thing I’ve not done yet is a track-day just driving around. All of the “track-days” I’ve done have been with tuition

Oh and I agree you can never have enough power, although what I have at the moment will do me for a while

With it finally being dry last night and as I had to pop out anyway, I had the chance to use a little more throttle. Well at least until the shift lights came on

I have to say that I’m very pleased with the results! It really does feel stronger and spools up much more quickly. 2nd gear disappeared very quickly and third was gone before I knew it.

It felt fast but not as quick as I’d imagined…that was until the BMW that I’d passed on the slip road a few moments earlier was now nowhere to be seen at all!! Hmmm I thought looking at the speedo…ohhhh I said as I realised how quick I was actually going. OK then I said it is as fast as I’d imagined  I think the smooth power delivery had masked just how quick it is.

Definately time to get it on a track to really see what it can do.

One question I do have for those with the 260 / 211 ECU is, how many miles do you get from a tank of fuel now? I know fuel economy is the last thing to think about when it comes to performance cars but with normal road driving before the upgrade I was getting around 200-220 miles from a tank and I normally fill up when I get to the last little block on my fuel gauge. As of last night I was at 185 miles with one block left, although to be fair, that was with some spirited driving and my recent rolling road

Just curious

Never checked I’m afraid

My shell garage Love me anyway with the amount I spend over all three cars!

Same here, never payed any attention too it. With the amount I have actually driven it this year I will be lucky if I have filled it up more than once a month. :frowning:

Haven’t driven mine for ages either-I’m getting withdrawal symptoms!

No idea either but got to Donington on a tank which is 200 miles but on track about 80 on a tank

80 miles on track sounds abour right. I did a 30 min session at Oulton and used 1/2 tank. Guess I did around 30 miles

Thats an epic average speed Chris… 60 mph!

You will get much better economy in 3rd gear and above!

Out lap, couple more to warm the tyres, 6 fast laps and a cool down
Sounds about right ???

i was thinking i’d have to mask off the odometer so as not to depress myself too much but despite a deliberate blind eye, after a week or two i suspected that the car was actually more efficient. definitely not what i was expecting. so i checked over a few tanks and normal driving is showing a steady 32-33mpg versus 29 on average previously. the trackdays i’ve done since have been too varied in terms of traffic and weather conditions to know if there’s a difference but i think it’s more or less unchanged.

Interesting! Like I said before, I didn’t buy this car to worry about the fuel economy, but it is interesting to hear this. I was just genuinely interested to get a rough idea what others had found their consumption to be. Looking on the Lotus website, the 220 and 260 both have the same fuel economy.

Personally speaking, I actually find that I’m using less throttle now when driving around town / country lanes because it picks up so cleanly and effortlessly.

Lotus also told me to run the car on Super Unleaded, but then I always have done (I use Tesco 99).
