I’ve just had the x5 remapped (up to 350 bhp and 520lb/ft / 700Nm)
This time I was aiming to increase the fuel consumption not just the power.
The thought process being you don’t have to keep as much on the power to maintain the same speed
It seems to have worked too on a long distance (very) fast trip to the west country yesterday it probably was about 2mpg up at the same time keeping right on the tail of a new 530d which I think shocked him!
Over two tonnes and now hitting 60 in about 6 secs
Just been re-reading this thread before I make up my mind about getting some stuff from 2ubular!
So, if I fit Jim’s new 4.1 manifold and sports cat onto my 2ubular 8*24, will this then run my car lean on the standard ECU? Or will this ‘learn’ there is a higher air mass flow and compensate with more fuel etc etc accordingly?
Trust me on this Pete, you will need a remap to get the best from the exhaust manifold, you might be ok without but you might not, when the bore was changed on the exhaust system (note not the primaries) my car needed a remap and in the end larger injectors as it had gone lean past 6k rpm, if you are talking about getting an ECU upgrade anyway got to Sincs get it all done at once with a bespoke map as well, there won’t be much difference in cost from the CN option, and I have found the injectors for you as well
Yep that would make sense, the manifold is fiddly and you don’t have much space to work, get onto Jim to get you the stuff made, that will be your longest wait
I can confirm that my fuel injectors are now max’d out on my katana following the 4-1 install and remap. If I up the power I’ll need to upgade injectors and fuel pump accordingly.

I must say I am now a tad confused! [/quote]
F you want to make the most out of the bolt on goodies a remap is a must, otherwise why buy the bits and go to the trouble of fitting them just to ‘hope’ they perform.
After fitting a full 2bular system (latest 4-1 manifold, decat and GT3 silencer) will the 260 ecu, uprated injectors and fuel pump be enough to keep the AFR readings within tolerance without a further map!?
I keep reading conflicting advice and most of it about 4 years old!
Should I be looking to speak with the BOT boys with their latest ecu related announcement?
I am not looking for the ultimate performance out of the mods at this stage, but knowing the pistons are safe is my aim
My memory and understanding is that:
The 260 ecu is designed for the bigger injectors(440) and pump anyway. The slight flow differences with the exhaust will be accommodated as the lotus ecu is to some extent a learning ecu. It’s only when you make sweeping changes that it can’t cope. Personally I’d stick a 3.1 pulley on as well. The set up you have at the moment is good for 280hp on a cold day (before heat soak!) but you could reach its full potential ( ie mapped for power not emissions) with a new ecu. I’m yet to be convinced by the re maps of OEM ecu although await with interest BOTs solution. Jez is not one to say stuff without good cause.
Don’t stick it on a rolling road before you’ve done a couple of hundred miles cos you’ll get unadjusted readings while the ecu is accommodating the changes.
My car thrashed 3rd gear on the first track day after I bought it, it had dyno’d 220 just prior. I put it down to chimpanzee test driving as it was a dealer demo car. A couple of years and one warranty later I got the CN260, 2bular back box and a bunch of other stuff. A bit after that, the clutch finally delivered on its long standing threat to kick the bucket. While it was being replaced I got the gearbox checked and it got a clean bill of health. My car sees plenty of trackdays.
In summary, I would not be overly concerned about a 260 upgrade eating the box.
