Totally awesome work mate
Inspiringā¦
Questionā¦ the wishbones look OEM! Did you get them re-passivated? Or are they painted/powdercoated?
Look forward to seeing your work personally!
Yes a zinc coating then painted in Clear POR15 Pete. Same as George.
I say Dan, you sayā¦
Danā¦
Danā¦
He makes it look so bloody easy.
Danās going to pop back in a few weeks to sort the driveshafts
I remember someone telling me, there is something so satisfying about using new parts with clean new fixings on a rebuild, its very true. Cooling (PRT), clutchtastic and starter motor
Wiggled the manifold up and on. Had to remove the oil filter and bottom engine mount. A strap helped tilt the engine to give more room. Finished by fitting the alternator heat shield and popping the oil filter and engine mount back on.
3 thingsā¦
Little snag this evening, the boot floor could be a better fit so Iāll have to get a new one drawn up and made pronto. I was hoping to fit the heat shield and the rest of the exhaust tonight. Iāve also decided to fit a standard engine mount and ditch the EP one. The OE mount that came off the car wins the award for best most rusted part so Iāll either buy new or find a good second hand one. So a trip to see Rocky in the morning and a new hydro-mount. Lastly Iām going back to the original steering wheel so thatās off to Allon Whiteās to be trimmed.
I sanded and painted the stays again the other night, smoother than ever
Popped over to UK Lotus Centre to see Rocky today. Picked up an engine mount in much better condition then my own, thatās now gone for shot blasting. While I was there I had a rather emotional reunionā¦
Reused my old door seals which apart from the adhesive were perfect. So I used some VHB tape to stick them back onto the car. Cleaned the filthy hinges, used the old shims which were Zinc coated a while ago, popped in new like for like fixings and went all S2 with the spring plates (which Iād also shot blast, Zinc & powder coated) ) by adding the plastic follower. Will pop the door cards on and maybe the stickers tomorrow.
One thing Iām really looking forward to is putting the newly trimmed interior back into the car. The doors look BRAND new freshly painted with the doors cards and door pull inserts trimmed back in. Top work by Allon Whiteās. Just the window winder and window seal the then job done. And I havenāt forgotten the hinge caps, theyāre on.
Ignore the green tape and foam, just protecting the door against the wall. Oh and messed up the Exige decals, what is it they say about the easiest jobsā¦
Winders are on, they look spangly and so too are both waist seals. The Eliseshop outer seals are excellent. I devised a tool that made popping the clips back on a sninch. The inners however looked past there best initially but after a fastidious straighten and clean with some POR degreaser came up peachy and look as new as the outers. So doors done, they really do look bloody incredible.
The engine mount came back from shot blasting. Now the original that came off the car was rusted so bad I had both parts powder coated rather than just the top. I know the bottom should be zinc coated but it just doesnāt make sense to do that again.
New hydro mount. Bolts (and some other stuff) going for zinc coating tomorrow.
As much as it pains some peopleā¦
I just like the fact they are no longer as rusty asā¦
ā¦ the engine mount
Itās only a little thing but even something as mundane as refitting the sill extensions is mega satisfyingā¦
But lots going on behind the scenes
Got these back. Sad day maybe as it could be the last time I visit JW Rudge to have anything else Zinc coated.
Iām waiting on a few things all pretty much booked in so in the meantime I thought Iād make use of idiol hands. Headlight lenses were kicking around looking rather sorry for themselves soā¦
500 grit by hand
I love my vice.
800, 1500 followed by 2000 & 3000. All in the box of course.
Lastly the polish.
Looks great Jonny.
Congratā!!!
Distracting Dan again
