I’m really not surprised you don’t want to address the issues brought forth in this thread, your fear of exposure dictates your silence. As for the video, not much of a demonstration of quality, reliability, or performance. Just blipping the throttle while parked like a teen-ager or cruising down the road at 4,000 rpm doesn’t show us much. Only sound reason I can think of for such restrained driving is fear that something might break. Axles?
Oh bother - Have I been rude again?Fabian hiding? Naa that wasn’t rude.Viper engine in an Exige?Naa that wasn’t rude.Wasn’t me - I’m a good boy!
Tone,What sort of drugs are “good boys” doing these days?
Now, now, let’s all kiss and make up! We are all one big family here, you know [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]
ok… I am still not convinced. Please show some video of the car being spanked thru a series of twisty roads being run up to redline please. This waffling around at 4500rpm is NOT enough to make me spend 10000euros on a conversion.
Not quite sure what that video is supposed to demonstrate. Not impressed, sorry.Especially after nearly ****ting myself driving Joe’s Exige again, last month. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image][This message has been edited by PeeJay (edited 11 February 2003).]
Sorry to put a dampner on this otherwise very entertaining thread, but surely the point in not to argue about who’s is bigger, but to get one to market?I am really interested in this conversion, loads of power and reliability what more could an exige owner want?Videos & write ups are all very interesting but I would be more interesting in the rigour of development testing, the quality of design and materials, the cost of the kit and a source of good low mileage engines. Some indication of leadtime & the customer service that can be expect would also be nice.Surely the rest (i.e. who’s is bigger) is less important?
MF,You’ll be able to see and drive it for yourself very soon! Your concerns are mine as well, and have all been addressed. My conversion has been torture tested for over 4 months now, and is flawless. I use only the very best of materials, FAR better than OEM quality. Brooke Kensington is my first dealer in the UK, and will be handling sales, installations, and service. Absolute customer satisfaction is our credo. I have sources for good, low mileage used engines, as well as new engines from Spoon Sports in Japan. A business associate of mine has just been named sole importer of Spoon products in the USA, so I’m quite well connected in that area. I’m also the originator of the Honda-Elise engine conversion, and have been doing this for nearly 4 years now. Any others are just imitations.
JoeOK, maybe I’m economical with the truth. But Fabian (apparently) has been a very naughty boy (allegedly)! In some peoples opinion - yer honour.Tony[This message has been edited by Tone (edited 11 February 2003).]
JoeContacted Jack at Brook Kensington last week - he reckons your conversions will be up and running March/April time in UK - looking forward to giving it the once over in the flesh [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
I’m very impressed looking at the details on your site, Joe…well, amazed is probably more accurate. I’m not an Exige owner (yet, I plan to be)…I might have missed this, so apologies if its already been covered, but approximately, what would this conversion cost?
Matty B,We’re still sorting the VAT and import duty gremlins, but it’s looking like right about 10,000 Pounds for a turn-key conversion. Not cheap by any stretch, but considering the performance, it’s the most economical “Supercar” on the Planet.Cheers,Joe
So basically for the price of a new Rover engined 170bhp Exige 12-months ago you could now have a 2nd hand converted 220bhp 6-speed rev it 'til the sunsets Honda powered jobby in April!Hmm, almost a shame by engine turned out to be fine after all!Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Spoon do Type-R engines but so do JUN.JUN are one of the best in the business and currently hold the World Land Speed Record on the Bonneville Salt Flats for the E/BGCC (E:engine displacement 3L-4.2L B:turbo/super charger G:gasoline C:competition C:coupe) class.See their engines here. http://www.junauto.co.jp/processing/index.html They are an English speaking company and will reply to e-mailed queries quite promptly in my experience.
I dont know if any of you would happen to read SportCompactCar but its a magazine in the states and they just so happened to do an engine swap wih Type-R into an Elise. I love Honda and the potential of that engine is endless, especially in such a great car as the Elise. They did a battle between the Type-R powered Elise and a Mustang Cobra, the Elise ripped it to sheds in every aspect. They said “Take the fun loving nature of the Miata, cross it with the dynamcs and power delivery of a shifter kart and turn is loose on the road with shapely and ultra-lightweight fiberglass body.” If you’re wondering it’s the June 2001 issue volumer 13, no. 6 at sportcompactcarweb.com also all types of honda engines are fairly cheap at streetimports.com under the JDM button. Have a nice day
I did the Honda engine conversion on the car that was featured in the article you mentioned, and it did run pretty well. The K20A conversion that I’m offering now is head and shoulders above it in terms of performance, and the next comparison will have to be something along the lines of a 360 Modena to get as close as the Mustang did. Joe
Joe, very impressed with what I’ve read so far. I’ll be in touch with Brook Kensington shortly!
P.S Joe, please keep us all updated over on pistonheads.com
Have you all read about this honda conv… RE: Elise-R - Page 1 - Elise/Exige/Europa/340R - PistonHeads UK Anything to do with you Joe?
Pabs,Yep, Jonny Leroux’s car is one of the two we had on display at Donington a few weeks ago. The whole thing happened rather quickly, and I didn’t find out until I’d talked with him all weekend that he’s quite proud of the fact that he’s totally merciless with machinery. I find this to be an advantage, actually, Jonny is the perfect guy to add to the 6 months of torture testing I’ve already done to the conversion in my Exige. The general concensus is, “If Jonny can’t break it, nobody can”. The other car on Display at Donington is Marc Charlton’s, one of the Sport Elise’s that was campaigned in the Autobytel Series with his Son, Patrick at the wheel. I came over to assist with the conversion and run an impromptu school for my dealers’ personnel. Marc’s car will be raced in this season’s BGTC in Cup Class against GT-3 Porsche’s etc. I’m quite pleased that the BRDC allowed the K20A into the mix, and that’ll be another excellent test of performance and durability. Marc’s putting together a new team, so won’t be entering the GT Series until June at Castle Combe. All in all it’s been a rather busy month, and I’m in the process of getting everything into production right now. I’ll keep you posted on how things are going.Cheers,Joe
