Honda TypeR Engines

Out of interest, as it may be a while before I did something like this, who do we go to for UK costs? Have they got a source of engines or is it just the kit? And will there be a car that can be tried? On your car, how many miles have you put on it since the conversion and has it had any probs (as it wouldn’t have been really tested at the loads you’ll have got it to)?I think Race-Speed maybe doing something with a Ford engine now.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

IDG - I think that may be Raceline, rather than Race-Speed!Cheers

Ian,I’ve got an excellent source for engines that are being taken out of nearly new cars in Japan, and will very soon have a deal with Spoon Sports in Japan for brand new engines from Honda as well as Spoon Tuned engines. The K20A2 that you get in the Civic Type R can be brought up to JDM Type R specs relatively easy, and I’ll have a ready supply of those parts for those who wish to go that route. In fact, of the two cars that are being converted first, one has a JDM Type R engine, and the other has an upgraded Civic Type R engine. Shortly, when the staff at EVO gets their hands on these cars, we’ll get to see a back to back comparison. As to reliability, although I’m not allowed to drive my Exige on the road, it has quite literally been tortured with a long series of Dyno testing and acceleration runs, as well as having done some track time a few months back. In the past 4 months I’ve put a little over 100 miles of pretty much constant wide open throttle time on it, and it’s performed flawlessly. Since I come from a racing car construction background, all the engine mounts are made from the best materials available, SAE 4130 steel, which is very much the same chemically as your Reynold 531, and commonly called Chrome-moly. This material choice allows the parts to be much lighter than the Lotus bits, and be substantially stronger as well. The half shafts are capable of handling over 500 HP, and are made of the best material available as well. I simply don’t believe in doing things half way, so every part of the kit is over-engineered to provide trouble free road, as well as on-track performance.Joe

Well I have just formed a company and we are taking engines out of Dodge Viper’s and putting them into Exiges but we would like photo’s and drawings of everything you have done to date Joe - but we won’t copy a thing, honest.

Ooh that’s interesting!!I live in Bicester, sound like a chat is in order!!! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Tone,I’ve put the Viper-Elise part of the project on the shelf for the time being. That V10 just doesn’t make enough torque! I was thinking more along the lines of a really nice Catapillar Diesel. We just may have to upgrade the suspension for serious track work, she’s a bit on the porky side. You’re more than welcomed to have all my engineering data on that one, it should be a real winner!Joe

LOL!Joe, when your done with the Catapillar conversions, how’s this for the next project; I’m thinking about 4 Hayabusa engines, one for each wheel… A 16 cilinder, 64 valve Elise. Would that be the hot setup or what? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]duh.PS: Hi Matt - how’s things in LA? In our ongoing efforts to entertain ourselves, we seem to have lost sight of Fabian’s absence from the discussion. Is his silence a telling tale? Maybe he’s lost under the Catapillar’s tracks…

Would you reply after all that?!

Suspension is not a problem - gonna do away with namby-pamby springs and dampers. Going for that new fangled hydrolastic that all the best cars had. or maybe citroen jack up suspension just to out do those road ramps!!I don’t know what happened to Fabian - bit of competition and he hides! My engine supplier Trotters Independant Traders said there is a plentifull supply of unattended Vipers in the UK - engines should be quite cheap!

Hmm, me thinks it is time to call them and ask if they need an Exige to try it out on? Thanks Joe i will look into it this week. Mark.

Joe,have you spoken to these guys? They have a good reputation for good work on Lotus’. http://www.lakesideengineering.com/ Cheers, Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Ian,I spoke in a rather lengthy E-mail, but they didn’t speak back. I’ve heard good things about them as well, and understand they all drive Elise’s. Has the web failed me? Doesn’t appear as if we’re going to hear from our dear Fabian, does it?P.S. you know right where to find me, don’t you?Joe

Joe,The lakeside email is ,i think, broken at the moment.try calling them and ask for Max, I think they have a fax too…

I sent the E-mail a couple of months ago!I’ll probably pay them a visit while I’m in England next month. What’s the weather like in March? Should I leave my Hawaiian shirts at home?

Big time cold today!Warming up at the weekend for some wet weather instead.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Joe if you are visiting them do mail me off line to meet up (we have a spare room if you need somewhere to stay!) as i am only 3 miles from them and yes they did the work on my car which is A1. Mark

Mark,Plans aren’t finalised yet, but I’ll let you know when the time comes. Thanks for the offer to put me up for the night, I appreciate it, but I’m pretty sure that’s all sorted already.Joe

Hi,i do not want to comment any of the threads that Mr. USA and a few other have posted in the last weeks, beeing so rude is not my and Komo-Tecs way of showing how good products are!You can download a video ( sorry for the quality ) at this link, this show how the car perfectly drives ! http://www.exige-r.com/track/video/exige-r.wmv Thank you to all the people that written positive e Mails about the Quality that we have achieved and supported us… RegardsFabian
