Honda TypeR Engines

I have seen the pictures, but it has been said that there where no drive shafts fitted or anyway of fitting them the way the engine is installed at the moment without cutting through the subframe !!It was also said that the engine was in contact with the firewall and chassis, is this true ?

Hope it handles ok because thats a pretty large looking lump and fairly high up in the chassis. Access around the engine with the clam in place looks…ur…snug.

Joe’s installation seems okay. http://www.prototyperacing.com/k20kit.htm Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Hi Phil, the reason why there are no driveshaft inside is that we do not want to make it people to easy to copy it.The car has run already. If you will be on the Nordschleife/Nrburgring in the 28feb.-2nd march you can see how good the kit is made. Also, Komo-Tec has alredy sold 6 kits to the market and prototype-racing none !Hope to see you in Germany in end of feb. so you can make your own view of the car…Have a nice week end…RegardsFabian[This message has been edited by fabian (edited 24 January 2003).]

It’s not like me to get into a ****ing contest on a web forum, but come on Fabian, do you really expect anyone to believe you didn’t install the half-shafts for fear of someone copying them? Only the center can be seen anyway, and who could copy anything significant from that? As long as you brought up the subject of people who copy other people’s work, why don’t you tell everyone here how many times you sent me E-mail asking for detailed photos of all the parts I’d made for the original K20A conversion, telling me you were going to use them to advertise for Prototype Racing? Some were actually dated AFTER Komotec had started working on your car! As to how many K20A kits I’ve taken orders for, you have absolutely no clue, so I think it may be a good idea for you to do a taste test on a large superglue bottle.

Copying the drive shafts [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image] your having a laugh aren’t you, a honda CV joint on one end, the lotus one on the other and a straight round piece of steel between them, whats to copy? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/image] Unless it doesn’t fit properly and there is a UJ in the middle of it [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image]How about posting some detailed pictures of the fitting then [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Joe,Love the superglue bit…must remember that for future use [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Fabain when you posted,The car has run already. Was that with the Rover engine? What are you going to do with the six kits you have bought from Komo-Tec.matt…

It’ll be interesting to see if our boy Fabian has the stones to respond.

LOL - i’m going to enjoy this! Go on Fabian, please respond [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]PS: remember me, Fabian? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image] You naughty copycat, you! Don’t tempt me to expose you, dude…

Peejay hi!Fabian won’t respond as he is pushing his car around the Bullring on the way back from the NEC.(Joe…Bullring=ring road around Birmingham, nothing to do with the Nordschleife/Nurburgring.)

This is indeed developing into a most interesting thread [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif[/image] .

I agree Simon, what an unusual thread! If I could add one comment at this point, having seen the pics, what a waste of an Exige…I hope they can put the “K” back if necessary [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image]

Peter, I don’t know for sure about Komotec, but I designed my K20A engine conversion to be completely bolt-in, so nothing needs to be cut or permanently removed. Once the Honda K20A is installed, I don’t think anyone will want to go back to their underpowered old Rover, but as a collectable car someone may want to do this for resale. Wait until you’ve driven one, you just may find it prudent to change your tune.Joe

Well i think everyone has put thier toys back in the pram then? Great fun looking through this thread and now i understand why it is important to be upfront with those you are nicking ideas from (not me of course).Joe, any more news yet on a UK supplier/installer for the Honda unit yet? I know you had mentioned RaceSpeed (Owen) in the past i think. M

Owen never got back to me. I think it may have had to do with my asking about his shop facilities.Jack Davis, from Brooke Kensington made the long journey across the pond and the US to meet with me during the last days of the L.A. Auto Show, and a couple of days afterwards so he could personally experience what he described as, “This is the fastest Lotus I’ve ever been in!” I explained to him that absolute customer satisfaction is what I’m looking for in my dealer network, and we’ve agreed that Brooke Kensington will be my first dealer in the UK. They’ll be doing sales, installations, and service at their facility in E6 Telford Rd. Bicester, Oxon.Very soon there will be a couple of very quick K20A powered Elise’s in England.Joe
