Don’t forget to add a gearbox oil cooler if you plan on tracking it.
My total when JSR did mine several years ago was about £4k that included
2nd hand gearbox
LSD
Jubu 3rd and 4th
Gearbox rebuild
JSR gearbox cooler (1st one)
well worth it in my mind as it has been fine ever since with ~300hp
So it seems that I may have been a lucky boy. Didn’t seem like that back at Anglesey
It was the final drive. There are 4 or 5 teeth missing from the crown wheel but fortunately hasn’t damaged anything else in the box.
I’m going to go back to a Jubu final drive, but this time semi helical rather than straight cut. Also going to get the Celica C60 6th gear put in so that although the gearbox will be shorter from 1st though 5th it will still be approximately the same ratio for 6th.
Hoping that will take the ultimate edge of the noise for motorway journey’s. Will still be a ear defender job, but its all relative.
So if you are running upwards of 300 hp then after 3rd, and 4th, you’ve got to be thinking about the final drive. I was also running a gearbox laminova type oil cooler.
Still really kicking myself that had the original Jubu final drive one removed.
Nice idea but I’m on my bike, London to Paris that Friday/Saturday so won’t work for me.
Also car still won’t be Donny friendly yet, at least until the unsilenced day later in the season.
Might just have to be some sort of meet up rather than a track day, unless some other noisy days come up in the interim.
Will get the car quieter for next year.
They aren’t as fussy as Donnington, but they sent me home after the first session last year. That’s one of the big reasons to get the car quieter.
If you can’t do your local track then is a pain in the backside.
I plan on going to a local exhaust fabricator and having a 2nd external box for quieter days, I just can’t stand not being able to use the car as much as I want to, I can’t however afford to do anything else with the car than this to make it quieter.
Are you sure it still has packing inside the silencer Ade? I know Jim reckons his packing is indestructible, but frankly that’s bollox in my opinion.
Some of the exhausts I have seen on SC’d S2’s have got that bloody hot (and I’m not just talking about Jim’s exhausts here) that there is no way on earth that the packing will be in any fit condition inside.
Why not see if a local fabricator can turn you silencer into a re-packable one? Mind you even Jim does those now, so maybe he could convert it for you.
