When the engine is warm you will need to wedge your accelerator pedal or get someone to sit in the car to keep there foot on it as the car will stall when you spray it in , I think it says to keep revs at 1.5k , spray the can upside down into the throttle body without the air box and flexi pipe fitted , I sprayed around the the throttle body first to clean any muck around the mouth of it first and the rest I fired into it (IN SHORT BURSTS) , the engine goes a bit mad with the engine revs going up and down but stick with it , it may be worth putting the seafoam in your tank at the same time to clean the injectors an fuel system as I did , once treatment is done let the car run with the airbox back on for 15 mins , I turned the car off and reset the ECU then went for a 30 min blast .
It may also be a good idea to check your MAF sensor to see if its clean , I did this a week before by blasting the bulb with MAF cleaner without touching the sensor bulb , this helped idle but not stalling long term . I will be doing these three things again in the spring . Hope it helps , it worked for me to my amazement , a real " we’ll bugger me " moment lol
I’ll give it a go…mind you I do not have the stalling problem BUT car is coming up to 5 years old now and I have never cleaned the induction. Apart from oil deposits in the i/c, but catch tanks seem to have solved that.
Cheers Moomin, I’ll give that a go too.
I always found when I changed the airfilter the stalling issue went away, however I am now on a K&N and similar cleaning doesn’t seem to fix the stalling issue so well. I think I will try cleaning the throttle body, very good advice on how to do it.
Sounds very much MAF based issue to me. Quite a common problem on Imprezas. Often the ECu will try and learn it’s way round it, and when you reset (or send you ECU to be reflashed) it loses it’s memory and the car will start stalling again.
Spraying the MAF element won’t really work - a new sensor is the only way. Failed or failing MAF doesn’t nomrally give a CEL either.
I had tried two brand new MAF sensors before I tried this .
Odd. My Gotham map was spot on last time…
Oh and I was also told that most throttle body’s have a coating in them now and not to scrub or use harsh cleaners as that can take the coating off , I was recommended the BG 406 as its safe to use on these coatings .
After doing this the Gotham map didn’t miss a beat all summer , I do blame some of it on the shite fit of the TRD airbox .
If a tune is right from the start they can’t change… Anything going wrong after is always the hard bits…
:iagree:
On another note, Wayne mentioned that they can program the variable Traction Control onto my car (I presume via Gotham), if I have the adjustment knob from the 08 car.
Any idea how i’d get one?
available from lotus via usual parts channels
All i know is my other Exiges didn’t stall and this one was fine before the Gotham , I would say a dyno map is different to real life road driving , spraying this in worked for me so hard or soft bits its all good now.
Think i’m cursed this week…
Fitted the Gotham ECU and Lotus green injectors this morning.
Idles ok after letting it learn, but doesn’t start too nicely. But worse than that, its bogging down really badly on part throttle
I can put my foot flat and it just hangs. Checked and re-checked all the connections 3 times.
Beginning to regret this - PITA taking the ECU and injectors back out but i’m fairly sure it’s the ecu map
Will catch Wayne on Monday. Meanwhile my car is useless this weekend
check the injector cushions are ok, way too easy to pinch when you slot the injectors in if you fitted them to the rail first.
They are all correctly in place… unusually, they all went in 1st time!
Didn’t EA do your map on the dyno then ?
No just a fixed map for a standard Exige.
I’ve had one before which worked fine. Always better to go and have it done but they are a long way from me.
Sounds like a faulty injector …
Had one green denso fail within a few miles of use.
Mine was sticking open shooting too much fuel through
It happens
- I’m not sure of the map needing to learn how to idle
Definately no fuel leaks ?
Yup def no leaks, I was in there for 20 mins with a big torch and extinguisher
I will whip the injectors back out today and send the lot off to Wayne. Will see if I can spot anything when I remove them. I had the choice of a used (20 miles) set of green injectors from a cup car, or a fully new set of aftermarket ones. Injectors look brand new and should be ok if they’ve been in a car already. Came with new cushions too.
