ECU Recall

I’ve now done nearly 5k on the new ecu (and rebuilt engine) - i have to say that its running perfectly and pulls really smoothly. I have always had the rear wheel sensor connected and got good pops and bangs before, now I get less but they are still there including the flames - just need to track it this weekend and make sure its OK at the top end.

P3SKEStill having probs with that alternator light?

MikolaFlickering light only started on the last couple of laps of my final session. Hopefully being fixed today!Stunned to hear that you’re selling your car - you’ve definately got mixed up priorities - or she’s stolen your trousers [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

Had my ECU Recall done today - and I have to agree that although the cars seems a bit quieter and less “urgent”, it definately pulls smoother ang stronger in the mid range. Top End power seems no different. Also took the liberty of havong the Eliseparts Nylatron engine bushes fitted - wow - not so much engine rocking on opening and closing the throttle (if a little more vibration through the car at tickover). Hopefully this reduced engine rocking should help to save my aircon pipe from snapping which has just been replaced for the third time!Talking of aircon - it’s never been so effective! It actually cooled me right down on the way home and made life far more comfortable.Pagid RS15’s also fitted all round - the car now stops as well as it goes - made me realise how ineffective the standard Lotus pads are.Once again an EXCELLENT service from Nick Whale Sportscars in Birmingham - and for all of the work they did - a very reasonable bill. Full Marks!Giles

Sorry about the spelling in the last post - it never was a motor traders strongest point!Giles

P3SKE!!I have a secret cunning plan, a plan so cunning that the mother of all foxes would be completed out cunned by it! After paying top dollar for the car and a further 6k on getting it to run right, I have decided to give it away, virtually free, to avoid paying any more income tax and am therfore giving myself a Section 21 under the Mental Health Act 1979 - I will be retiring to a private cell in the luxury Hotel - BroADMOOR!Au Revoir, Mon Amis!!

heyyy…I thought this post was for ECU recalls ??Anyway mines never missed a beat during 7 hours open pit lane fun at KnockHill on Wed !!

back on topic!Mine’s going back in tomorrow because, as per my earlier post, there is a persistant misfire (I thought the idea was to get rid of these!) between 3500 - 4500 rpm. It’s not as abrupt as the old 5500 misfire but definately hesitating under power. Very annoying. Other than that, I think that I’ve got used to the new ‘profile’ and I like the way it runs, particularly at lower revs where it is definately better than before the new ECU. I’ll kep you posted.Mike

Just a quick post to follow on from my message of 5th August. The problems related to my recall ECU (sticking throttle, down on power) have been solved. After various trips to my dealership and several contacts with Lotus, it turned out Lotus had supplied my dealer with a faulty ECU. As simple as that! A new ECU was fitted last week and everything is back to normal (or better); lots of power, improved torque at low revs and crisp throttle reponse.Lotus haven’t confirmed what was wrong with the first replacement ECU, but my dealer suspects it was a 177 incorrectly labelled as 190 (as I think one of the bulletin board members suggested)…Roland

Had my ‘software upgrade’ done at Lotus Ribble Valley saturday morning. No problems as yet, stopped the misfire @ 5,500rpm (used to happen infrequently).Purchased some grey+orange bulb rear indicators. Replaced them in 2.5 hours. If anyone can beat that, they must have extremely agile fingers or be an ex limbo dancer / contortionist!Physio bill will follow!Phil GTP.S. anyone else managed this without taking half the car to bits?

So are these just done with a software upgrade now rather than the physical ECU replacement. And… we know wheel speed sensor needs connecting so I’m assuming that the car needs a road test too?

Hi MattYes & Yes !How long are you back in the UK for?RegardsRob

Matt, Spoke to Westover Cars in Blandford last week, they need 1-2 days notice to get your chip ‘blown’ with the latest map. Probably take 2 hours for work to be done.[This message has been edited by kam (edited 12 September 2002).]

Kam and MattI’ve just got back from Westover’s and Haydon’s…Westover cannot do programme download into ECU 'cos there is a problem with the proramme - Jason at Westover said he “locked out” an ECU chip on a 340R, so now he won’t do any more until Lotus sort it out again.Never mind A354 Salisbury to Blandford was great fun!!! Haydon’s have a Lotus Carlton to look at and Westover’s have an F40.
