Good news at last!In response to the fabled “5500 rpm misfire”, the factory is to exchange our ECUs FOC.Expect a letter from your dealer soon [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
Is that 172 & 190 ECUs?If so, it may help save some money on an upgrade (ie. upgrade, Lotus cost, while swapping).Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
IanNice try!I understand that it’s like for like i.e. new 177 for old 177 etc.
Ive had the 5500 stutter on my 190 quite a few times.Does anyone know how long the recall procedure lasts i.e. how long will it be off the road ???
LeonThe ECU swap is straightforward - about 1 hour’s time, so your car need only be out of commission for 1/2 day. Speak nicely to your dealer when booking your in [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

I expected to have pay for the new 190 but should be able to save the labour on fitting it, given they have to swap the 177 anyway. Worth a go and will make Mrs G think I’m being responsible while upgrading my car (a trick I’d love to pull off!).Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Pesky - Haven’t you had the 190 upgrade? and therefore won’t benefit from the recall if it only applies to the standard 177?,albeit you have suffered the misfireLuckily to date I have not suffered this gremlin but it has affected 190 upgrades as well hasn’t it? Bearing in mind the 190 upgrade is a Lotus upgrade, shouldn’t these be replaced as well?Or am I missing something hereDavid
Ya F**cking Hoo!!!Spoke to dealer this morning and Lotus Technical - like Pesky ses dealer orders an exchange chip they fit it and they send old chip back - bye bye 5500rpm ststststutter!!!
Good news. I’m still getting the misfire at 5500 when starting from hot even with the 190, the leads… it’s so consistently exactly at 5,500 it always had to be a software issue. Now all I need to do is find an authorised dealer. Haydon’s are fantastic but can’t do warranty work, Portsfield are no more… so I guess it’s B&C for me from Southampton?

Gotcha [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]A bit slow on the uptake - it’s an age thing !!! quote:Originally posted by Pesky: DavidIf you have the old 190, you’ll get a new 190! Matthew, phoned Cos at Haydon’s this afternoon, says he is getting in touch with Lotus and will give us a call when he knows more. Apparently if the job is just a straight chip swap, it should be possible at Haydon’s. If not there is always Westover Sports Cars in Blandford, just down the road from Haydon’s (nice road to drive as well).
Cat amongst the pigeons time.Is there any chance that the new ECU’s either 177 or 190 now won’t actually make that figure?Or on a positive note will the new ECU have a better idle, more balance torque and throttle response. We can but hope it is the latter!!
PaulI believe that the 190 ECU is the one used in the Elise Mk2 190 - which has been dyno’d at that figure. As it happens, I’ve seen Steve Green this afternoon, & he got his car back from the factory last Friday. Due to excessive oil usage (3 litres from Leeds to Scotland!!!), his engine has been rebuilt, & at the same time was fitted with the new 190 ECU. Although still running in, Steve reported that the engine was running very smoothly, with instant throttle response.Only time will tell, but fingers crossed that not only will the misfire be cured, but our cars will also be more “user friendly” [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

There’s much talk from those that have driven the S2 Elise 190’s that it’s down on power compared to Exige 190s (and have seen torque curves which support this)[This message has been edited by Admin5 (edited 25 July 2002).]
Either up in flames or down in power!! Only joking. I do hope they boys at lotus get it right though.

There not changing my bloody ECU i’ve only just put it in [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Do you think the dealers would exhange my old one without seeing the car ?BTW Mine always used to stutter at 7800 rpm anyone know why [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image][This message has been edited by Phil Davies (edited 25 July 2002).]
