HA HA! First on page four!Is this an Exiges.com record?! Do I get prize?Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
So IDG you got page 4 - Damn !!NW charged me 800 incl for the change - and yes that included the pully and the thermostat - labour was about 295.Andrew
Hi All,Had my ECU changed today on my 190, no cat, sports exhaust car. Initial impressions on the drive home (10 miles, ‘A’ roads) are mixed. It was very strange to have the thing try to tickover at 500 rpm every time I came to a halt, although it usually recovered to about 1000 - 1100 rpm quite soon - I really thought it was going to stall but it didn’t. Presumably this is part of the learning curve and it will eventually settle dowm to a less racy tickover. Throttle response seems pretty good throughout the rev range and no misfires although a limited amount of popping and banging. I think it’s virtually impossible to say whether it’s quicker, slower or whatever but it is certainly different. Somehow it doesn’t feel quite so ‘racey’ but I don’t think it’s any slower. Many might regard this as an improvement but, quite frankly, I’m not sure that I don’t miss the high tickover and urgent nature of the beast. They seem to have toned it down without affecting the overall performance. Too early to draw any strong conclusions but I’m neither disppointed nor delighted at the moment. We’ll see how it goes…RegardsMike
Getting used to it now, but there does seem to be a bit of a stutter at 4000 rpm - amyone else experience this?Mike
MikeNo stutter at 4K at all - but my idle seems to be hovering at 1.4K now - same thing Pesky had.IDG - forgot the price included a set of KV85 Magnecour leads as well !!Damn thing is so smooth now !! - pulls like a train and the new RS14 stop it dead - now it feels almost right - if only I could get a bit more weight into the steering it would be almost perfect !!
quote:Originally posted by Miniman:…but my idle seems to be hovering at 1.4K now - same thing Pesky had.Now done a couple of non-stop journeys of about 40 miles each. Tickover/idle is definately erratic, sometimes around the 1200rpm mark, but often its about 1400rpm. It does seem to pull more strongly/smoothly from 4000 rpm, than it did before the new ECU was fitted - no hard facts of course, to back this up!Roll on Oulton Park this Tuesday [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
Hi All,Just had the Emerald ECU fitted, pulleys and all.It feels so much better than before, pulling very strongly from 3k RPM. I need to replace the throttle bodies to smooth the idle though…I was getting 190bhp pretty much exactly on the rolling road (and this wasn’t using Super Unleaded) so I reckon afew more brake once I’ve got Optimax in and remapped the ignition).(and it cost a whole lot less than the Lotus upgrade too :-)I’m running the car with the SSports exhaust and no cat. Just a thought…how good is the standard manifold on the Exige and would it be worth getting an EBD manifold??Cheers, Simon
Simon,500 for a smooth idle just aint worth it IMHO. The exige throttle bodies will make the same power as Jenveys, and mine idles at 1050rpm quite well. The EBD manifold will help a bit but its best fitted at the same time as some other work, e.g. head porting.
Hi PhilThanks for the advice, agree 500 sounds very steep, maybe I’ll use the money to upgrade my brakes instead! Simon
Just had mine done - superb!Pulls beautifully from 2k in 4th, 6500 - redline feels like an extra 10 horses. Its a bit strangled at 4k, but only on a trailing throttle. Well chuffed!

Phil, are you sure about that…throttle bodies, I mean…I would have thought that they are good for at least 3-4 bhp more… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]...don’t forget our target of 220 bhp…or is yours less than that? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]later,Bruno
Well just going by what Dave Walker says [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image], yep my target is 220 [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] but will do that over the winter, hey have you noticed how much quicker your car accelerates once its over 100mph ?
you telling me… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] oh bugger, one possibility less then…whatelse can we do? Bernard trumpets about 5 bhp meaning another 3 bhp to go…hm…the cat can’t go…fuel pressure device? dry sump system? any ideas?later,Bruno
Bernards trumpets have only been proved on the Jenveys, for our throttle bodies, some will have to made and experimented with.A fuel pressure regulator at 3.5 bar should also help, do you know if your injectors were at full cycle ?As you have to keep your CAT what about the motorsport version or getting another one and “gutting” it? Is it only a visual inspection or does the car “have” to stay in emission levels ?Btw how is your oil consumption ? mine is fine except the oil pressure sender attachment fractured a couple of weeks ago a spewed oil everywhere again [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]Also, did Dave run a compression test on your engine ? it may be worth having a leak down test down aswell just to make sure everything is ok…LaterPhil
Phil, well in that case, I might as well go for the Jenveys…already got the Motorsport cat…it has to stay in emission levels…but I’m ok. we checked that at Emerald. don’t know wheter the injecters were at full cycles…have been thinking about the compression check…yep, still the same oil consumption…suppose one of the piston rings gave up…Collin has to fix that when I’m in England next year. but then, you have to come down to Emerald as well… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]what are your plans over the winter to get to your target?later,Bruno
IDGYep, it is the Lotus ECU - dream city, dude!
Pesky, any post Oulton ECU update?
StevePerformed perfectly all day - no misfires at all [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] Towards the end of the day, the alternator/battery light was flickering at around 7250rpm - so it’s either a recon or a new alternator later this week [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]
