Post no: ONE HUNDRED !! - do i get a prize ?
PhilIf you can wait that long, I will bring a cat from LRV to Anglesey at the end of Sept. I’ll try & remember nearer the time, but it would be a good idea for you to remind me!!!
Pesky !Did you feel the reported throttle sticking when you take your foot off the gas ?I’m trying to be the first post on page 4 … [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Damn !
MinimanYes - seems to stick at around 1400rpm. Since arriving home, I’ve adjusted the tickover screw so that at the moment at a standstill it’s running at 1100-1200rpm - albeit erratically! Will go for another run tomorrow to see if it’s any different.
My ECU was replaced last friday. I have had no problems and have driven the car frequently over 5500rpm over the last 200miles or so. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/cool.gif[/image] I think everything Nick Adams says above is true… my car has been rock solid and I think it runs smoother at low revs - the only slight dissapointment is that i’m sure it’s not as rorty on the over-run or if I blip the throttle between gears. Its always scary reporting good news when everyone else has so much bad… 'cause you know what usually happens the next time you go out !!!
Pesky,Thats a kind offer and appreciated, but i’ve lost count how many times they have been asked to send it, the most recent was a couple of weeks ago !!Anglesey may not be on the books, looks like the next round of Eastern European trips are being arranged [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]
Its possible that the sticking throttle syndrome is caused by a change in the ignition and injection timing. Could also be a dirty IACV too.

Ah, I thought it was a bit odd when Pat pointed at the RIGHT rear wheel when I picked the car up.Unfortunately it isn’t just the connection with my sensor, the actual sensor itself is dead.Whoozit, pity you couldn’t make it to Donington yesterday, the car was running fine again (not surprising since it’s the old ECU…) and it was a very good day.(Incidently, what is this sensor doing if it isn’t a speed sensor? Is it just to sense that the wheel is there? Is the 5500rpm limit considered a safety feature in case the wheel has fallen off…?)Mark[This message has been edited by BT52 (edited 20 August 2002).]
MarkI don’t know the sensor works - but it does! Now mine has been re-connected, pops & bangs have all but dissappeared (on the road anyway) [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]

Well, it was okay, but the tyres are pretty worn down now, my new road set might have been better, but I’m a lot more confident with the Scoob in the wet with it’s 4WD, ABS and ‘get out of jail free’ electronic stuff.Plus, it has air-con, so you don’t have to resort to having a window open in the rain and getting wet [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image][This message has been edited by BT52 (edited 21 August 2002).]
Well I got the ECU changed and upgraded to 190 at the same time - Nick Whale in Brum. All went OK - except … yes you guessed the 5500 rev limiter came in.I think we sussed out the problem:When you drive around town at not to high a road speed it was working fine - pops and bangs but would rev clean to the (upper) limiter, felt smoother, better tickover and more torque. ( so yes, I think the new ECU is a vast improvement actually)Problem was when I got on the motorway at higher speed and backed off - pops bangs and then 5500 limiter.Checked the speed sensor and found that whilst it looked connected it wasn’nt - Sooo connected it and hey presto - no pops and bangs and no 5500 limiter. So I guess the speed sensor is working to a certain relative high road speed only.I would suggest that anyone having the ECU change really checks the speed sensor connection - without it - as BT52 knows - your stuck at 5500 eventually - or drive at 40mph everywhere and enjoy the pops and bangs [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Cheers to Ian and Paul at Nick Whale -
