Brakes advice

By “full set”, do you mean per “axle”, or per both axles? For me, full set would mean for both axles, front & rear

Yup I ment front and rear as a full set. 100 is about the same price as a full set of Mintex 1144’s and Greenstuff are even less. As Gav had not mentioned if we were talking front or rear prices I figured they may be a Mintex priced pad and we may be talking a full set. Seemed like a reasonable question to me

Mintex 1144s must have halved in cost, since I last used them about 6 years ago!

Nahh they were always about that Dad.

No good quoting current prices, you muppet - what were they 6 years ago?

Memories come flooding back … Mintex 171’s …
God they used to stink !!!

TBH I “thought” they were around 80 per axle then, so apologies for my duff memory!

Its ok, memory loss is quite common when you get past 70

So I believe. I think Martin Edwards told me that, but I’m not sure!

I suspect those prices will be per axle and are a bit cheaper then PF pads…

yep price indicated is for the fronts only… wishful thinking boys, you pay for cheap pads you get cheap pads…

EFA…

To true, at the price point though your straight up against some well established brands like Pagid and PF so will be interested to hear how they pan out

The Nitron bells are very expensive (over 400 +VAT) they are the floating type. I’ll be impressed if you can get the lot in for that price.

I’m going to speak to Ollie at PMS tomorrow as he buys some belled disks (not sure on the type).
Other than that it looks like 295 AP bell’s to keep the cost down and move to 304’s/308’s later.

Just had the calculator out!!!
308 Alcon discs with Nitron FLOATING BELL KIT I can do a deal at 851 + vat (1000.00 inc uk delivery)
ps Floating nitron bells normally 480.00 plus vat and discs 450 (pair) plus vat(1093inc)
Heres a link to a photo of the 308mm Alcon discs attacted to some Nitron Fully floating bells (Special intro offer of 851 +vat)

OK Guys!!!

I just got home and it’s late, but since Dave has posted this ‘porn’!!! that link shows MY car today with my new front brakes fitted!!! :sunglasses:

They are just BRILL!

I had previously the AP 295’s fitted on my S1 Exige… great increase in braking torque that you could really feel!

I can report that the extra diameter of these ALCON 308’s gives even more feel and progression to the pedal! They are yet to be fully bedded in but already I can feel much greater retardation for the same pedal pressure I had with the standard Lotus disks last week at Anglesey! So those who sat in my car up into Rocket will be even more amazed!

And as expected with Nitron products, the quality of manafacture and attention to detail is just suberb! And as once a British aerospace engineer said, if they look right they are right!!!

IMHO, a very worthwhile brake upgrade! Please feel free to have a look at them this Sunday at Donny!

Cheers,

Pete.

Nice one Pete/Dave :sunglasses:

Might be in the market for some Alcon 295 or 308 myself - my discs are well worn ie almost “grooveless”, even before Sunday!

What discs are you currently using? Alloy belled ones or one piece?

Dave, currently got 295 AP grooved on 12 bolt ali bells on the front.

The 308mm Alcon Discs have the same PCD as the AP Discs so will fit your alloy bells!!! Can do the discs only at 425.00 + vat Then all you need is thicker spacers and possibly some new pads (or flat your old ones for reuse if they are good!)
