Brakes advice

Cheers for your reply Dave.

Go on Rob!

They look the nuts too mate! :sunglasses:

Get them on before Donny so you can stop your beast from those crazy SC Honda speeds too!

A lot of the Porsche GT3 guys use the Alcon discs and have given them great reviews…

OK Guys!!!

I just got home and it’s late, but since Dave has posted this ‘porn’!!! that link shows MY car today with my new front brakes fitted!!! :sunglasses:

They are just BRILL!

I had previously the AP 295’s fitted on my S1 Exige… great increase in braking torque that you could really feel!

I can report that the extra diameter of these ALCON 308’s gives even more feel and progression to the pedal! They are yet to be fully bedded in but already I can feel much greater retardation for the same pedal pressure I had with the standard Lotus disks last week at Anglesey! So those who sat in my car up into Rocket will be even more amazed!

And as expected with Nitron products, the quality of manafacture and attention to detail is just suberb! And as once a British aerospace engineer said, if they look right they are right!!!

IMHO, a very worthwhile brake upgrade! Please feel free to have a look at them this Sunday at Donny!

Cheers,

Pete.

I don’t get how going to a bigger discs makes that much difference. Moving from the oem 288 to 295 disc is only 7mm increase, so by moving the caliper 3.5mm further out is surely only going to improve braking force by a 2-3% with the extra leverage?

Bigger heat sink
Better leverage
Look fantastic behind your wheels
Each to there own I suppose
Some people like white cars some like black cars,
At race pace on sticky tyre I know which i would want behind the wheel on my car, despite what many people say about the Lotus test drivers views!!

Dave - 308mm Rotors …
I can see in Alcon’s product list 295 and 304 with 12 x 177.8 PCD but not 308 … is that a special rotor or what ?
Cheers
Andy

Yes Special rota only available from Me or Nitron, I asked them to delelope the fixed bell solution.
Main reasons being Lotus use the 308 ap rota on a 190 pcd bell so this is a cost effective alternative! Also means that nice ap direct fit 4 pots bolt straight on without brackets or spacers!!

Does this mean I can use the Alcon rotors next time around or will I need new bells as well?

It’s a bit more complex than that!!!

Have a look here!

Much more than 3%!

Will fit other bells with 177.8mm pcd and 12 bolt fixings!

Sadly a grand just for disks is just to rich for my blood, I’m going to stick with the 2 pots and get fixed belled disks with pukka pads (Like pies but different).

Smart thinking…at last! But make sure you ALSO fit braided hoses!

A good move I think… until you can put close to the same laptimes that Mike Wilds can in your car then you really don’t need to look at spending silly money on mods.

That’s music to Steph’s ears as silly mods could well be some time away

Awesome upgrade Pete! I do love what Nitron have on offer for the exige.

How did you get on at Donny?

HI Graham!

Brakes… GREAT! NO issues at all and they should last me ages now! The good news is that the Disks are quite ‘reasonably’ priced to replace, so in the long run I am happy it is a sensible thing to do! Just dont think there is the need for 4 pots…

Donny was great… until my reliable Toyota ended up on the back of Harveys trailer to get me home! (Thx Harvey!!!) I had a very small oil leak from one of the pipes that goes into the oil filter housing… should have replaced the crush washer earlier but it looked to be okish… WRONG as the drip got worse as the day wore on to the point that it was starting to drop oil on the undertrays near the very hot exhaust! You know what happens next eh!!!

Pete

Them there bells/discs are bloody fantastic :sunglasses: - car looks great too…

Real pity that your day was cut short, but I don’t think many of us did the number of track miles we usually do eg my car only clocked up 108 miles (2 tanks of fuel) up to 3.30pm, & I couldn’t be arsed going out of the circuit for more petrol, plus my brakes are getting too well worn to be “happy” with.

Thx Rob!

Yep, they are good… I believe your bells will take the Alcon disks… give seriously lotus a call!

Many thx for the pax ride! Bloody fantastic car with some great driving too! :sunglasses:

Stupid oil leak… JSR are fixing it tomorrow! Never mind, I had great fun in the morning and it was a great day with lots of Exiges banter about too. Pity about those bloody Caterhams eh!

Would those be the same Caterhams that weren’t racing each other, or using it as a test day?

I didn’t have any problems with their driving - I used my mirrors a lot, & just indicated/moved over whenever they were about 100ms behind me - then had fun trying to keep up with the buggers (99% in vain though!). Pity some of the Porsche guys didn’t use their mirrors
