Anglesey 2015

Good to see everyone.

I had to shoot early on Friday, the lack of sleep over the week and cold wind cutting through me finished me off. However, I did get up and go and do the morning session on Saturday  seemed rude not to, had feul, a car and some time for a change!

Great to hear ( nearly) all of you had a great time. Enjoying the stories. Made to to Holy Cheese land and its dumped with snow. Made me feel slightly better.
Tim, you really need a Fox at the bar to get those last minute emergency orders in.

A big thanks to Benja and Bookatrack for a great event, sorry for holding you guys up out on track  But it was great driving the LF1 on track for the first time, still managed to do a 180 degree spin at the hairpin mid corner in sport mode :astonished: That was on my second run out in the morning, I also think my tyre pressures were too high so dropped them down to 30psi front and rear.
Felt much better after that, trouble is the car is too precious to me and I would hate to damage it.
Great time again though meeting up etc.

What a brilliant day!

I love exiges.com
Thank you to Ben and Rob for making it happen and motivating me to make the trek over from Budapest just for this. I enjoyed every second. We are on the drive home now!

The Evora is so much fun on the sighting laps I nearly decided not to drive the Caterham. But I am glad I did - I had a briliiant time driving it particularly in the wet it was BIG fun. Thanks to Ben for a awesome ride in the super Badger - man you can peddle it! and the brakes are mega. Thanks also to the wild owner of the Kermit green audit turbo Exige who took out Miss double D for a big power intro to S1 Exiging!

Great to meet everyone! Moo Senior Neil was a great partner in the Caterham. And Clive - just awesome. Inspiring - I had great fun with him in the Evo Triangle before.

I’m coming next year!!

Robs car needed some ‘blessing’ :stuck_out_tongue:

New Sparco advertising

Pierre’s post sums up the day.
Great to be back in the Exiges family and catch up with familiar faces. And some great new ones too.
Anglesey is the only place where the wind blows harder IN the garages than outside.
thank you Ben for whipping us all in and making it a memorable weekend.
See you all next year if not before.

PS this old fart tried the Caterham but I’m sticking with my roof, heater and windscreen wiper thanks!

Thanks to everyone who was their a lot of different speeds of machine on track but everyone played well!

Southern Convoy contingent the Evo Triangle drive was ‘interesting’ so undulating think mini ring well worth the slight detour.

I was lucky enough to get a 30 min stint in the R300 at the end of the Day, thanks Benja for finding me and to your kids for drawing me as reserve  Thanks Muu for the ride in your Motor, I liked the power. Cheers Bomba for leading the route home great views just a little bit too much traffic but to be expected on Easter weekend. I took only a few snapshot will post some later if theirs any keepers

Gra and I need more pictures fellas, you must have some Jason

Few more pics on Facebook, feel free to tag people you know all public, you dont need to be on FB to view / download. Have a few more to look at later…

The exiges.com annual trackday is typically the event of the year for many of us; that couple of days away from our responsibilities to enjoy the company of fellow exigers and our fantastic machines. I therefore felt the weight of responsibility taking over from Pesky, I really didn’t want to fxxx it up! In the end though my role was minimal, use the same formula finessed by Rob, harangue a few people to get booked and the enthusiasm of exiges.com was always going to make the day a success.

So after the shakedown at Donny a couple of weeks ago my car was at Matt Bentley Racing having some electrical gremlins sorted and new dampers. The softer ex-JF Ohlins were very likely contributory to the inboard CV lunching itself and I had very little time to get the car fighting-fit for Anglesey, reformatting the Ohlins was out. The Nitrons had already been sold so I opted to put some stiffly sprung Quantums on.

I’d not really planned ahead so all the shit I needed to take the event I had to lug on the train/tube in the morning rush hour. I think Con’s ‘Red Caliper Award’ is made of depleted-uranium or something as it weighs a bloody ton! Into the car and pointed it at Telford services to meet the other guys. I was expecting it to feel more crashy given the spring-rate, but the ride with the Quantums is really firm, controlled and nuggety, the softer sprung Nitrons were worse on the road tbh. From Telford Ian led, with me behind him and we set off on the familiar pilgrimage on the M54-A5. Like last year we took a short detour on the EVO triangle which I’d imagine is very scenic, but my field of vision was filled with the rear-end of Ian’s car  The car was feeling mighty, handling really predictably on the road with a great feedback of road surfaces etc, what an awesome little car.

The usual rabble was assembled at the Premier Inn on Thursday night and we had a good evening of banter and laughs. Sean was outraged that I’d taken the Ohlins off the car in favour of a super stiff setup and was ribbing me pretty relentlessly. When we woke to very wet conditions on Good Friday morning, I started to think he may have had a point, he was of course quick to remind me again when we got to the circuit. Also for some reason as soon as I got in the car the brakes had developed a weird vibration after being mint beforehand. I did not think too much about it as given my setup, power, ZZRs and the conditions most of my attention was focussed on keeping the ship pointed (generally  ) in the right direction and on the black stuff. Like others have said it was good to have the mixture of conditions and the morning really focussed the mind. The afternoon dried out and my setup started to come into its own. As ChrisB mentioned we had an awesome few laps with me pushing him around in his fantastic ex-MarcP Honda 211. The car is quick and Chris had clearly got to grip with its charms and I was having to put some effort in to keep him honest. It was the perfect end to the on-track action, thanks Chris, good times :sunglasses: Video is coming bud. Brakes got a bit better but there was still an irritating pulsing through the pedal. I’m still on the learning curve of both the new dampers and (like Tim) the diff which really comes into play in the wet…I’m still learning. My only regret of the day is that I did not have some tuition as my driving was properly scrappy and I know there was a lot more to come from the car.

It looks like the R300 tasters were a success which I’m really happy about. Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience which I’m not at all surprised at since they’re fantastic little cars. I said to Jonny that I bet there’s a few people on PH this weekend looking at Caterhams  I certainly would love one as long as it could be in as well-as and not instead-of capacity. DaveP and I have rented Jonny’s 620R for an evening at Donny next month…bring it.

After a quick drink with Rob and another very entertaining night in the bar it was up again early on Saturday with Ian for the drive home. We decided to do the EVO triangle again but this time at a very sedate pace as Ian had done a wheel-bearing. Alas not far in, my car started to cough and stutter at the smallest throttle openings. I managed to nurse it to this farm-shop place and pull over. It would have to be pretty bloody obvious for me to find what the issue was and so unsurprisingly after a couple of minutes of Ian and I staring intently into the engine bay,…we’d drawn a blank. Thankfully Prof Shorrocks was passing and diagnosed more fuel-relay fun and managed to patch me up to get home…thanks John I massively appreciate it. Pics below of our cars on the EVO triangle when we stopped to clean the lens on the GoPro. That pair of cars have been doing trackdays together for a decade :sunglasses:

Sorry for rambling on, and now its Oscar time :

The guys that could not make it were genuinely missed, you know who you are. Especially missed were Mike/Pete who could not make it due to ill health.

Thanks to Jonny, Sarah and the team at Bookatrack, they really are the pros.

Thanks also for the astonishing enthusiasm of everyone attending the day who made it such a success, cheers lads.

Great write up buddy… and that 1st pic is just awesome !!

Well done to Ben and everyone else involved with the organisation of the day and everyone else for creating a friendly atmosphere, the red caliper trophy and choice of recipient was a nice touch too.

Was good to see so many cars out on track given the wet & greasy conditions, and given the difference in some of the cars on track thought the driving standards were superb err except maybe for some of the hooligans in the Caterhams :lolno: and Johnnie calls the jap barge boys out!!

Personally, we achieved everything we wanted to and so by lunch the decision was made not to push our luck considering we were running an engine that wasn’t mapped (short shifted to avoid as much stress as possible). A long, long way to go but i think we’re on the right path

Managed to speak to a couple of people throughout the weekend and was impressed with their knowledge and warmth, so thank you for both.

I stayed for the long weekend and popped down to the track on the Sunday to watch a bike TD, they definitely got the better of the weather! anyway, bumped into a couple of guys from friday also drawn to the noise of something quick going round a track!

Anglesey is a great track and destination and can fully understand why you choose it for a get together, where do i book for next year?

Brilliant to meet so many mates and thanks to Ben  - shame my Exige didn’t step up to the mark - my fault tho’ …

Will finally gets a full day’s running

Enough of all those noisy cars . . we northerners know how to have fun . . .fish chips and peas outside at one of Anglesey’s gourmet eateries

A decade of dicing

It’s bloody cold out there, isn’t it?

Great day although the circuit was wet for most of the day didn’t stop the fun.
Although I didn’t really know anyone was pleased by the excellent track manners and glad to share a few beers afterwards.

Was pleased how the car handled after the suspension rebuild, still a bit of fine tuning for the next TD.

Video following one of the BAT caterhams  :

A few photos during the day:

Good to meet you Dris. Nice car control, I thought you were going exceptionally well and the car looked great. I hope you’ll make the trip again and next time you’ll know a few more of us.

Great vid / good driving Dris… and good to meet you also…

Just having a look through the vids. There’s one bit on the rear-view where Dave is hunting me down and I recall looking in the rear-view mirror and thinking that we were about to have some fun but then thinking I was on fire so I came off the gas and into the pits…it was the flames on overrun, you can see them in the video
