We had a great time, plenty of track time until the clutch gave up
New shifter worked perfectly though
Huge thanks to Dave (seriously lotus) for getting us out of the shit with a brake line flare tool! Shame your day ended so early
That’s some classy engineering Mark.
Thanks, to Benja, Book a Track and all the exiges gang. I had a great day, best yet for me, what with a Caterham drive, garage and the chance to sample another S1, courtesy of Mark PH.
Got to say thanks to Ben & Jonny…fab day. And an even bigger thanks to Ben’s kids for picking my name out of the hat for the remaining R300 drives; even though it was 9.30am and still raining, these cars are flipping great fun to drive. Chris, the instructor in the car with me, was brilliant. Might have to hire one for Donny…
Yes well done Benja
Bookatrack slightly less so…With a completely fully booked day they still want to charge £50.00 for a second driver.
Quick vid, more to come…

Great to see so many Exigers & their fantastic cars out on track & of course in the pitlane/garages/cafe. Well done Ben & Bookatrack for organising such a great day attended & enjoyed by so many like minded folk.

Loved watching you & Darren have fun - that is one hell of a track car for sure!
Perhaps power etc is a little excessive for road use
As usual, another top class Exiges.com annual trackday…
Firstly, thanks to Ben for organising and keeping the Exiges.com ball rolling… without effort and organisation from someone, this day would simply not happen, and I think I speak for everyone when I say I’m really glad it does happen… every year it gives us a target to aim for, whether its to finish off those last minute jobs that we started sometime during the winter, or just to get the car out and remember how much fun these little cars are !
Whilst some might have been a bit disappointed by the looks of the weather in the morning, I can honestly say I had an absolutely fantastic day… driving in the wet on pretty worn Kumhos with my ‘dry’ setup was interesting to say the least - but to be honest, I loved it… it was a great learning opportunity to get some real on-the-limit handling practise at relatively low speeds and I attempted to put into practise some of the tips I’d picked up from the Caterham drifting day a few weeks ago - not always successfully I might add - a couple of spins kept me firmly grounded (one pretty spectacular one that resulted in some grass cutting and sods of turf being thrown up onto the bonnet )
I softened the car up a bit, and that helped a little, but steadily the track dried up and by the end of the day there was pretty much an hour of dry track time to finish the day off nicely.
Huge thanks to Chris for letting me have a drive of the Radical - what a machine…pure racecar, and you can tell as soon as you turn into the first corner that it is in a different class completely to the Exiges (even mine, which is pretty hardcore/track only) I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to even get out on track after stalling it about 10 times before making it to pit lane - the grip the car has is a completely different level… astonishing… and that was on wets with a damp track - god knows what it’s like when it’s running slicks !!
Great to catch up with the usual faces, and meet some new ones too.
Looking purposeful…
Pretty worn Kumho!
Getting some post-trackday attention…
A good re-introduction to track driving and first time out in this car for me, the weather was great in this regard keeping my speed down (hopefully not enough to be a hindrance to anyone else)!
My first time at Anglesey too and thanks to all concerned for making it such an enjoyable event.
So to echo what Mr P said above, anglesey is a great season kickoff (cheers Ben) and is such a good day it definitely galvanises ones resolve to finish off any dragging on winter ‘projects’. In my case a engine out clean up + gearbox rebuild with LSD + complete rewire from seats back. Few weeks back I thought time was getting tight so booked a transporter hire, MOT would be a bridge too far and I’d hate to drive 260 miles up only to break it on route and not get any running. Good job really, as I was still working on it at 9pm on wed.
Thursday AM comes around, and I’m meant to leaving the house at 7.20 but was picked up late and lost any wiggle room on my day. Got the (decidedly ratty) tranny beavertail and head home, only the find it had tiny fecking ramps so getting the car on would be fun, after much messing with blocks and removing the splitter we’re on. Throw my junk in the cab and head off…
To Steve Williams Lotus, as the whole back end had been apart and wanted to install some steering arms. Much banter and plenty more work (fecking steering arms, caused us a load of dicking around with the rack) but we have a geo on the car and ready to roll. The bad news, it’s 5pm and I’m still in maidenhead. Queue epic single stint drive M4 / M40 / M42 / whatever the telford road is / A5 / A41 / A55, in the rain with an eye like a hawk on my satnav predicted ETA. Would I catch last orders? Turns out yes, just. Pint was much needed, and put Muu Seniors nerves at rest as he’d forgotten I was going to SW Lotus first and just thought I was lost. Apologies if I wasn’t great company, I was somewhat wired.
Onto the day in hand. First order of business was to break in the new LSD, which meant 30 mins of figure of 8s before it’d take any torque. Well that was boring, and I must have looked a right nutter over in the corner of the car park. Took me a good 10 mins to settle my head after. Diff was still noisy, very noisy, some of you might have heard the clanking in the pits with any kinda lock.
Out on track car felt ‘ok’ as it was fairly greasy and the LSD had really changed the chassis dynamics; trailing the throttle would push understeer, prodding it would slew the back out (which was fun). Took me all morning to gel with it, so sorry if I was somewhat of a sideways rolling chicane. However as the grip came to the track, I started to feel out where the benefit was, and it’s certainly a slow in fast out tool as traction exiting the corner is epic.
All in all, bar some water in the VSS sensor, had no problems at all so was very happy and could relax back at the hotel with good friends and some drinks.
380 miles today and I’m home with the car tucked up and a quiet amazement my bread landed butter side up.
Keep’em coming fellas
Fook me this is sounding like the Oscars
Big thanks to Ben from me too… I’ve been out of action for a while so if it wasn’t for Ben giving me an extra ‘prod’ I probably (definitely ) wouldn’t have been there… Initial forays onto the track were very tentative as I was getting to know the car and trying not to make too much of a ‘tit’ of myself, so it’s probably just as well it was wet as it forced me to take it easy! Sorry if I got in anyone’s way too much…
Confidence in the car (Honda 211 built by Marc P) gradually grew over the day and I managed to settle on a set of lines, gears and braking points… Highlight of the day was a session at about 4pm when Ben (yes, THE Ben!) pushed me round the now dry and grippy track in his beast. He was right up my arse the whole way around but it was Awesome fun which left me smiling for the whole of the 5 hour drive home and In fact I’m still smiling now . Looking forward to the ‘Movie’ !
And in true oscar style, also a big thanks to Marc for building such a awesome car, and Jonny for getting it there for me!
Chris
Another amazing Exiges track day & a huge thanks to Benja and the BAT team for a superb event.
With the forecast not looking good and with salt still on the roads, I chickened out bringing Shrek and brought my rental Elise out to play this year. Yeah missed the lightness and precision of the S1 Exige and the power of my old 260S but had a hoot chucking the standard Elise (except brake upgrades) about in the wet.
Great to catch up with the usual suspects and a few new faces and wow was that Caterham fun.
Roll on Spa in July
