3rd Gear Again

Gav did many thousand miles in his racer on a std box without busting it, so mechanical sympathy goes a long way…
That may be the case ,but what torque was he running?
I know of no 260 cars with broken 3rd but most >300 cars don,t last long even without your pet Gorilla !
Sadly, I know of a couple of heavily tracked cars, that have broken 3rd gear even on the 240 map. There was someone on Seloc claiming that they had done it on an NA car, but no further info about miles, use, etc.

There was also a US guy who broke 3rd on an N/A but it was a heavily tracked car

Cheers JDS !
Leisurely coming out of Sedgley village was enough for mine to pop :frowning:
I’m ready to just fit some Jubu,s now and take a chance that the new supplier is up to scratch …otherwise I,ll be too freakin old to get in the thing if I wait any longer…
If I break the jubu,s ill detune ,fit a std box and sell the car …

I’m hoping to have my gearbox out in the next 4-5 weeks. As you’ve waited this long, why don’t you just hang on and I’ll give you my feedback.
My long 6th gear arrived from Monkey wrench this am. The cooler is in and working. Dave @ SL supplied the clutch and lightened flywheel. The Quaife arrived from JSR ( thanks- quick service).Just awaiting the other bits.

The original Jubu gears where suplied by a well know German gear manufacturer, they apparently have stopped supplying Jubu, for what ever reason
The gears (made in germany by the well known gear manufacturer) will be available shortly from a freindly Lotus parts supplier…

That’s great news Dave.

Fair play matey!!

Indeed !
Great news for a good many people … Although they may not know it yet !

Yeah good news indeed but the friendly chap I refer to would rather have stock and be able to supply, than be a big mouth and have people waiting…
You know what suppliers can be like, even the good ones.

So Does this mean we will be seeing high quality replacement 3rd and 4th gears from another manufacturer in the near future?

As mentioned mine is OK at the moment, but got a few track days coming up so I susptect it wont be ok for long…

Hmmm not really another manufacturer… Same manufacturer, different supplier using the manufacturers name,

Sorry - miss ready your previous post  I see, so the current Jubu gears might be from a different manufacturer than originally hence the quaility concerns / questions, and the gears from the original manufacturer that are now proven in the wild will soon be available via a new supplier…

Do you have any time line ideas?

Oi, get in line, Shun !

Well I need to get to the front of the queue now as my third gear fell to bits on track yesterday so now I have no third gear and a gear box that rattles a lot!

So I really need some super strong, and hopefully not too expensive gears…

The only upside is that above about 70-80mph the engine / wind noise etc drowns out the rattling noises!

What power are you running Rez?

~290bhp

So not massive, but clearly more than the standard gears can handle.

Not going to tune much more, apparently a better manifold and remap should give about another 10, so I just want something very reliable at least up to 300ish bhp (plus a little if I do tinker some more).

Sorry to hear that.
Are you running a cooler?

Manifold will deffo put you over 300 even without a tune + plenty more torque …
Fingers x,d that our friendly Yorkshireman gets a delivery soon !

More proof you really need a cooler for track work and >270hp :frowning:
hope you get a fix soon doubt it will be cheap though :frowning:

Cheers guys - wasn’t running a gearbox oil cooler - only had the power upgraded earlier this year so was financially hoping to put the gearbox upgrades off until later in the year.
On the bright side had a fantastic track day yesterday

jfk - I’ll look forward to that extra power, fingers definitely crossed for the gears arriving soon!

Shoot me down if you like ,but I’m wondering if adding ducting and heatsinking to the Gearbox casing may help keep temps down .
Not trying to berate JSR,s cooling solution at all but just trying to think outside the box
