Waiting for any feedback on the new batch of “Jubu,s” before taking the plunge …
De-tuning is not an option I’m afraid…
Wish there was a real solution to this Achilles heel on the S2 but apart from Franks there ain’t

Any news on this - am talking to essex autosport about buying some Jubu gears at the moment, but don’t really want to drop the money on those and the associated gearbox re-build if they are not as durable as I / we thought…
Although the converse is, do I have many other options that are not prohibitively expensive?
I still maintain with an oil cooler the original Jubu gearset in my case is reliable, 10k miles on track/road 50/50 split I think tells they are ok.
The Jubus are OK, it’s the other parts that can’t cope.
I think a bearing went on mine.
For normal trackdays, I think they will be fine with an oil cooler and decent oil as Ade says.
We usually do a 7/8 day run in the Alps/Dolomites which is like doing 2, 4 hour continous track days for a week.
Lots of hard accelerating in 2/3 hard braking then agin hard accelerating.
The Box just can’t cope.
For normal 20 min stints hard driving on track it will be fine.

Thanks guys - will definitely be going the decent oil and oil cooler route when I get this done…
Oil cooler, Good oil and Uprated gears do improve things a great deal. The one thing no one mentions is the gorilla pulling at the gear stick… Even with all the mentioned parts fitted, a box can still be destroyed in minutes by unsympathetic driving.
Gav did many thousand miles in his racer on a std box without busting it, so mechanical sympathy goes a long way…
Well done JSR on their lovely gearbox cooler

That may be the case ,but what torque was he running?
I know of no 260 cars with broken 3rd but most >300 cars don,t last long even without your pet Gorilla !
Lots of standard 211s have bust the gearbox, mostly due to lack of sympathetic driving style, such as hard on gas over kerbs in 3rd and shock loading the gearbox and drive train…

Is the best gearbox oil MT90 or another?
Fair point Ade…
I was sort of thinking cars such as Boothy,s ,Chris,s ,MarkS2S and the rest of the CN cars etc…
the killer is torque not HP anyway, you can see/hear on the youtube clip of mine failing it goes at peak torque not HP. The real limit appear to be ~200lb/ft for 3rd gear. A lot of other failures are caused by shock loading or heat related failures.
The 260 cars really don’t get near the midrange torque figures of the cars with smaller pulleys hence why they don’t tend to fail on the road or sensible track use. It won’t however fix the temperature issues on track and these I suspect will cause long term failures of bearings etc.
The box is clearly the headgasket of the K series when used hard, but given a bit of effort and respect it can work very well on track and last ok as shown by a few on here alone.
Abuse it like anything it will break no matter what you do to it!
Oh yes and Redline MT90 seems to be the oil of choice
Does anyone know how many of the “new Jubu” gears have been fitted ?
