2013 Eliseparts Time Attack S1 Exige

As just posted on Facebook:-

Firstly, I’d like to say thanks to everyone for their words of encouragement over the last few days. Very much appreciated.

Simon and Matthew Bentley Racing and Eliseparts have been getting on with the rebuild over the bank holiday and are doing well. All of the body panels were taken over to the painters and should be back tomorrow. The car was masked up outside the workshop and the sills pained in situ. The cockpit has been cleared out and cleaned. The engine/gearbox and loom etc have been removed and the area cleaned thoroughly and nearly all of the replacement parts are in-hand.

As it stands, the engine and gearbox are now almost ready to go back in and the car may even be ready for firing up later today, leaving lots of little bits to do and the bodywork to get back on!!!

So, unless something major crops up, we’re on target to make Croft on Saturday…albeit without any testing again. Not ideal, but we’ve got to try.

Fair play Jamie!!

I was gutted for you when I heard about the fire, I know how much damage my car took and it was only on fire for a few seconds.

Top effort all round!!

Phew! Now whatever you do, don’t let Jason Kenny anywhere near it :open_mouth:

And this is the footage from Mike’s Time Attack VX220 who happened to be behind Simon at the time the fire broke out.

You can see that the car something bursts, making the car slide and then fuel under pressure being fired out of the back of the car and most likely onto the hot exhaust manifold.

I’d imagine the fire gets properly going just after the end of this footage. Scary stuff!!!

:open_mouth: Shit the bed Jamie, that looks properly :open_mouth:

Sounds like amazing progress has been made…

Looking at the team’s FB site it looks like the car is actually back together for Croft tomorrow.

Absolutely amazing effort and really good luck for tomorrow lads!

Live timing is not seem to be available :frowning: Hope they’re doing ok…

Our bloody luck wasn’t in again!!! All was looking good for the final and the cartek battery cut-off decided to switch the engine off, and then not allow us to start again, costing us the day.

All gutted, but never mind, there was still much more time in the car and this was it’s first time out ever and only a week since it was wrecked in the fire… The potential is amazing.

Drat !
But the car is bloody quick
Is there any footage on utube or any other channels ?

This is my quick summary from Facebook:-

What a week for the whole team. After the massive effort of rebuilding the car in under a week after the big fire, we finally made it to Croft for round 2 of the UK Time Attack Championship.

Work on the car to get it finished was still happening whilst Simon was sitting in the car, waiting to go out for it’s first ever proper session!!! Anyway, the gearbox valve block somehow sucked in some dirt which caused it to jam, so that was the end of our warm up session. It was pulled apart, cleaned and re-fitted.

The practice session didn’t throw up any problems and Simon got a feel for the car and the circuit, having not driven there for 10 years. The times were starting to look good and we were top of the leader board. In qualifying Simon started to lean on the car more to see what it felt like. All looking really positive and lots of consistent laps being put down to gather data etc. With our push-to-pass button for full boost being applied down the start/finish straight, the car looked and sounded like a guided missile, as full power was unleashed. We could tell that the times were coming down and we ended the session top of the board again with a 1.23 flat and about 1 second faster than anyone else. Simon thought that there was probably a 1.20/1.21 to come in the final, as he was still learning.

A complete nut and bolt check out of the way and a few setup and aero changes made and it was time for the final. However, again we were very unlucky and our day was once again cut short. Our battery isolator had for no apparent reason decided to cut the engine after only a minute on track and Simon was forced to coast onto the infield grass and watch the rest of the session from his seat. Once again, we were all gutted.

On the plus side however, we now know what the car is capable of and can start fine-tuning it, ready for Snetterton in a months time. The engine package has turned out to be an absolute cracker and the new 4 way Quantum Racing dampers are working very well indeed.

Once again, huge thanks to all of our sponsors for their generosity and an even bigger thanks to Scuffers, Eliseparts and Matthew Bentley Racing for all their hard work, especially in the last week!!!

Unfortunately we didn’t get round to sorting out the camera properly and only fitted it in the final where the battery isolator failed. Therefore we only have a tiny bit of footage and only a few seconds full boost blast down the pit straight where you can see how fast the car is. Just compare how fast the car goes through the gears compared to last year to see how hard this new engine pulls!!! And sorry, but the quality isn’t that great…

Anyway, here’s the footage:-

Firstly Scuffers is not being truthful, it was nine years not ten years ago  We had our annual exiges day at Croft in April 2004 and Scuffers and Randy were both there!

Real shame that you did not get the pot commensurate with both the cars potential and the amount of effort you guys have expended. Well done anyway, making this many changes to the car was never going to the easy path,…plus its not exactly the well trod path.

The car looks brutally quick in the vid. The only disappointment for me was that as the car rolled to a halt on the grass and silence descended in the cabin that we did not hear Scuffers say…“Oh Cock” or something stronger knowing him

blimey that is ubber fast…

I can read your mind Ade, no you can’t compound charge.

I do, I just don’t have a suitably sized bank account to pay for it :frowning:

For anyone who’s free on Sunday the 9th June and fancies a trip over to Snetterton, we’ll be there taking part in round 3 of the UK Time Attack series.

As per usual, there will be some very serious and interesting cars taking part which you can get right up close to. Roger Clarke Motorsport will be competing in their highly anticipated ‘Gobstopper 2’ impreza for the first time, which should be a sight to behold. Some cars will be hitting around 180mph down the back straight which if you know Snett, is quite unbelievable!!! There will also be some racing and drifting taking place too.

Also, this weekend is part of one of the ‘Modified Live’ events, so it’ll be quite busy with the usual comedy value, large quantity of chavs and “conservatively” dressed young ladies. Always good for a laugh!!!

Anyway, if you make it, please come straight into our pits and have a chat.

Saw your car in Racecar Engineering mag Jamie. Good article but pity that it seems a lot of the detail will be carried forward to future issues.

Will try to make it up to Snett.

Yes, it’s in the next 2 issues too so there will be more
Info. However, three articles were only just enough to skim the surface and they don’t go into any deep detail really. There is also quite alot of data left out completely, but then again it’s quite nice that we still have a few things private to us.

Would be great to have your support at Snett anyway. Ta
