Time to get the suspension sorted on the car. After spending four years completing the engine, gearbox and cooling this may take some time which is why the title is as it is. Will get photo bucket sorted and add pictures uploaded as I go and share anything I learn with you all to help if you ever do this job yourself.
I would like it set up for Silverstone and Bedford and I’m not bothered about the road, noise or vibrations.
It’s just stunning the S1 side profile isn’t it. Can’t argue with your choices buddy
I’ll be done with my suspension refresh this time tomorrow. I’m actually quite exited, it’s just a matter of fuel tank in rear brakes on. Then I’ll start the interior and I’m so close to starting on the engine!
I digress, so what are you plans for the car. I’ve prioritised making mine 75-80% road. Driving to and from the track here, there and anywhere then jumping in the Caterham. Maybe if the mood takes me jump in the Exige.
I don’t want to take any risks on public roads so I’m not worried how it drives because I won’t be going fast enough. Fitted the Quaife straight cut box with diff and was told it may be too noisy but it’s not noisy enough! I think I can handle a full on track set up on the road but I guess I’ll just have to watch the speed bumps.
I’ll do my best, right so what spring rates am I going to be looking for. It’s the Autosport show next week so I may be able to get so deals on parts there if I’m lucky.
The next question is about dampers, are three way over the top and does anyone ever adjust anything at the track? Those that have single way or 2-way do you ever wish you had purchased the three way?
Really interested to hear your opinions before I purchase.
Never had three way. With my S2 I didn’t do much if any adjustment with my 46’s once I found the sweet spot but did mess around with the 36 2 ways from track to track. Softer also if wet.
Having gone through a number of dampers I would say its more important to get ones that are fitted with springs and valved to suit your main application as nos one …
TTX for an S1 would be a bit overkill, unless its going to be used for serious trackwork… You’d be into £5k by the time you have bought them and set them up on the car.
Id advise you go with a set of 2-way 36mm ohlins with the S2 Cup260 settings on them (80nm front springs, 105nm rear springs). I have sold a number of sets of ohlins on Cup260settings to S1 Exige owners with no complaints back. I also have this setup on my sport 160, it gives a sporty firm feel on the road which isnt too harsh on poor surfaces and they perform well on the track too, its about the best compromise you can make imho.
Ps, GavT3 has the daddy TTX 40’s 4-way adjustable on it.
