Why not, I’ve done both!!
LOL - I was thinking the same - non for years and now everyone seems to be doing it !
The factory have been putting heat reflective foils on the bulkhead since the days of the S1… Ok, not gold in colour, silver, but it does the same job.
Me personally, I wouldn’t call it a firewall as there is absolutely nothing fireproof about it!!! It’s exactly what it says on the tin - A ‘bulkhead’ panel, simply there to divide the engine bay from the cockpit. I have covered it in foil solely in an attempt to keep the cockpit and the fuel cell away from the heat of the engine as the panels are only very thin. I’m sure there are lots of reflective foils that would do the job so why not use one that looks good when its done…??
Gav - is the gold foil more efficient than what it replaced/standard, will this raise temps in the engine bay by much?
I’ve just ordered some DEI Reflect-a-gold sheet from America via Amazon. Works out a lot cheaper than buying it from UK.
Until you get hit with Import Charges
For the price I got it for even if I get whacked with import duty it’ll still work out cheaper
Good luck…what about 20% VAT?
If it goes under the HMRC radar you’ll be laughing.
I bought a Kenwood headunit from the States 18 months ago. 400 here or 250 shipped from states. Ended up with about 85 in taxes and duties, so not quite as good a deal as I’d hoped, but still a bit cheaper.
I’ve only ordered enough to cover a heat shield and my intercooler shroud. Got it about 40% cheaper than uk price. Even with VAT & import charges combined it should still work out cheaper than uk.
No it’s just bling, and wears gold rings and a large medallion
I’ll have to get a picture of mine up too to compare blingness.
Seriously though, until you have actually seen this stuff in the flesh and not just on pictures, you can’t imagine how bright it is.
Hope you don’t get stung for any “extra” charges at all, Adam. I’ve bought stuff from the USA via eBay in the past - sometimes lucky, but other times I’ve had to pay the “extra” via the carrier’s UK office.
Bling it on!
I managed to get the engine out of it’s storage box this weekend to give it a good once over, hopefully without having to take it apart too much… It was bought as an unknown but looking at it now it would appear to be in very good condition, its just missing a fuel rail… The supercharger on it all seems good, pistons and bores in excellent condition, new plugs put in, Lotus 270 GT4 supercharger pulley fitted, TRD uprated thermostat fitted, TRD lightweight flywheel, clutch plate and cover fitted. I had the cam cover off and all looks like new in there. New belt fitted (waiting for a new d/sump belt to be delivered). Sump plate off and all looks good, totally std inside as best I could see…
Most interesting part was the collection tray for the dry sump system that replaces the std sump pan. It is a beautifully machined part out of a single piece of billet aluminium. It is a work of art!! Sorry i don’t know who made it so no bother asking, at a guess Pace, mind it would not of been cheap…

I get stuff from the USA etc , and tell them to not include an invoice , and put the value at less than $35 , so generally not bothered by HMRC

Sounds like a tip from Ken Dodd, Lester Piggott, or Harry Rednapp Alledgedly of course!
That sump plate looks proper cool.
Serious attention paid to the flange sealing.

Not all companies will do that…
