Yeah, I’ve had to ditch the 9" rear wheels to be able to go that low and im now running the standard 8" rims. Had i been running normal ride heights the 9" would have worked no problem but they just come too close to the wheel arches when you start going below 120mm on the rear (at 90mm they are on the arches) and im not prepared to start hacking away at them at this late stage…
Not only that but the TD 9" rears are very very heavy (like you wouldnt believe…)’ i rekon ive saved at least 5 kg EACH side on rim and tyre by using the forged 5 spoke 240R rims and they sit perfectly under the arches at those ride heights. I’ll be using the rear wheel arch liners in a bid to stop stones/rubber etc being flung around inside the engine bay and possibly demounting drysump belts and the like. Where as the fronts will not have liners (like the 2-11).
There are/were 3-4 other items on the car bugging me with their weight (as in, bloody hell these bits are heavy for what they are…). The two 9" TD’s rear wheels (now gone), the two oem intercooler pipes that are made of lead (I saved over 1.5kg’s by using the ProAlloy ones from Dave at Seriously Lotus), and the drivers seat im using isnt the lightest but I have compromised on the extra safety and seating comfort it provides so it will stay albeit i could probably loose another 5kg with a different seat.
The only other thing that is heavier than i would have liked it to have been is the roof panel but again ive had to compromise…
The original idea was to use a single skin c/f roof coming in no more than a couple of kg’s tops. As it is ive used a slightly heavier twin skin Cup260 c/f roof simply for the ease of mounting it (ive used the original hardtop mounting points), ease of removal (again only two bolts at the front to lift off) and the whole roof panel is now acting as a clamping plate for the rear clam section. ie if the roof goes, everything behind it goes with it!! The onus is on me then to attach the roof down well!!
That does look very cool indeed, hope to see you at Donny?
I certainly hope so Ade, thats the plan anyway… Still lots of little jobs to finish off but the bare essentials should all be up and going, youll just have to excuse some of the fit and finish at the time no doubt…
Silly little things really (mainly in the cabin) like the front dash/bulk head is being redone as the 2-11 one isnt quite how i want it and has holes in that i dont need/cant hide, also the panel which will hold all the buttons etc. probably wont be ready either…
I think we can forgive you those little finishing items will there be a passenger seat?
Yes it will have a pax seat in but at this stage im being a little selfish and the cars suspension set up is being done with just the drivers seat and my weight in place…
It will also be how i look at its final weight (with just a drivers seat) as the pax seat probably adds about 13-14kg with the belts, runner, etc.
:drumroll:
765kg with all fluids and 20ltrs of fuel onboard. There are a few little trinkets still to bolt on but it should still come in under 770kg…
What does that your power to weight…
A little bit drunk last night Mr Fox?

Lol a little too many
How the fook Jonnyfox runs a successful company is beyond me !!
Incredible effort and attention to detail!
Question on the GT3 subframe… What is the difference between that and a standard subframe?
Cheers,
Ben.
Pretty much every thing is different about it. The first couple of pages on the thread has some back to back pictures and detail.
Initial shake down done!
Its the ET/CupUK races at Donnington this weekend and LoT had a track day on today. It was the ideal time to finally run the car up while there was plenty of help about in the paddock.
I didnt get down there til after one o’clock and the plan was to go out, do a few laps (softly, softly) bed pads, check temps and watch/listen out for anything untoward. As it was by lap four everything was feeling so good I got a little carried away with the old right foot and by lap five I was being black flagged for noise… Doh, 101.2db on a 98 limit (hey i just had to buzz the pit wall, who wouldnt?) Two strikes and your out policy so the rest of the afternoon was spent short shifting at 6.5k just so i didnt get chucked. I got a couple of good sessions in though and managed over 70miles in total. Fifteen minutes before the end of the day it was time to go out and get my second black flag, lol.
Well first thing im going to have to do is learn to drive all over again!! Being so use to having abs/servo assistance i didnt realise just how much i leant on it.
Had a little spin into the old hairpin just riding the brakes too much into the corner and locking them up, to be fair it could be to do with the brake balance as i havent put the adjuster cable in yet and although its set somewhere near the middle it could be a few turns out either way, (my excuse anyway…). No but i do need to get it sorted asap just so i can have a little play to see the effects.
One thing i will say though the noise in the cabin from the s/c is totally f&@king awesome mental…!! Really surpised just how much you hear itm as you dont hear anything in the 2-11 except for exhaust noise.
Looking forward to Tuesday now and putting a few more miles under its belt.
