Wheel Arches

When cornering hard (on a track) are the tyres supposed to rub against the inner wheel arches?

Yes… Well mine do… I think it’s to do with the soft “road” springs that are on the Exige as standard

Yes I was a little worried. Did my first driver training day yesterday with Andy, and managed to burn two whacking big holes through my wheel arches. Are you being serious about the suspension, If so I feel its time to upgrade any suggestions ??

Mine have holes in aswell

Well after many discussion with various people the suspension, not necessalairy the dampers but defo the springs are stiff but more int he “fast road” category, basically a compromise to make it useabe on the roads… That useable for those who aren’t mad like most of us

This is also the same with the road going radicals, higher ride hight, much softer springs etc…

Basically if you wanna do loads of trackdays and can managed some monster clunk and crashes on the road then stiffer springs at least… Then Nitrons

It’s certainly on my shopping list

Now, did I ask about 10 volenteers before? There’s these casino’s you see…

Do you know who much replacement wheel archers are? Just a little concerned that one of the holes has exposed some black rubber pipes. I suspect there from the radiator.

If you have AO48’s you will almost certainly rub the inner wheel arches, I have holes in each of mine although the drivers side is bigger but I put that down to the previous owner rather than myself

I am running on A048s are there other tyres that wont rub then.

May be a cheaper/temporary option to change the tyre rather that the suspension at this stage.

I am lead to believe that as the AO48 has a fairly square edge profile they rub more than other types of tyres.

To be honest I would not worry about the holes, I would be suprised if if not all the Exiges have holes in the wheel liners, I think mine are about 100mm - 150mm in diameter

Thanks Mark

Not to worried about the holes, Just cringe every time I watch the video of me turning into a hairpin.

I find there’s a few things like that… They bother me maybe once but then after that I’m too busy clawing at the steering wheel and shricking like a cheerleader to worry

Oh, and if you mange to get enough lateral G to wear through the rad pipes then you’re doing something right

After 40000 miles mine hasnt got any holes - are you trying to tell me I havnt been trying hard enough!?

Be careful running 48’s on standard suspension. It can’t cope with the grip of my Toyo’s let alone sticky track tyres, no wonder the arches get rubbed through on so many cars.

mine has holes as well I don’t think they are supposed to be there but… maybe something to do with havinga live Yip !!

mmm… well… i guess…

Gaffa tape is the boyo…

Be careful running 48’s on standard suspension.

Oh I’m not so sure about that! Loads of us have, they’re a fab tyre.

But any excuse for Nitrons is a good one!

Front Left ? - If so they are oil cooler pipes and I started to run through those - so I suggest you check carefully You can re-route the pipes a little to make contact less probable

Front right Andy

Nothing in the left wheel arch apart from the fuse & relay box

Be careful running 48’s on standard suspension.

I’ve not tried the 48’s on my car so would admit that Im not really qualified to comment. Mine already has loads and loads of body roll though so surely this is made even worse with 48’s, hence the damaged arches?

I am running stiffer springs and shocks and have holes with AO48’s and Yokohama slicks!!! If you are driving it hard, you’ll have holes…If you don’t have holes, you probably bought the wrong car!!!
