I just got back from surfin holiday and you guys are nuts…The Randy spec Nitrons are perfect road or track and the Exige needs stiffer springs. I run 550/800 with helpers and it handles great… Stop being freakin sheep listening to guys too cheap to do things right… Come on guys Lotus sold you the cheapest bits they could, not the best…

Exactly where did you put the surfboard Frank
[quote=661]Sorry for the delay, aelord , back from the dead, and have just caught up on the swing this thread has taken. Nice burgers by the way.
My Nitrons are hofmanns on 500/700s both with helpers. I haven’t had them long enough to evaluate them. That said the journey back from Henley was no worse (I’d say better, but you would , wouldn’t you ,after spending a shed load). I wanted a track based car. Yes I go on jollies with the boys , but I have other cars I can take to the shops. There is going to be a compromise, make no mistake. If you just do road stuff then I’m not sure I’d advocate swapping away from the original Billies, if in good condition. But it’s your money.
So far I have not found the road ride too harsh. I’ve got the one way adjustables, set 10 F and 8R from hard. These I would suggest go harder by a couple of clicks for the track. I have a reasonable understanding of geometry but would be totally out of my depth on a more adjustable system… The main differences I’ve noticed are that the sterering is lighter and more positive and that I’m tram lining more (cambers increased)
Thanks very much for that feedback!

In the water of course…
Oahu north shore dude, nice to have mates in all the right places…
Or just be in the right places !!

Yeah, including the chassis…
Nice title to the video, Frank.
Sounds like sloppy seconds to me

With all due Frank that roads as flat as a flat thing, try running your set up over here and see what happens.
As for the Guys being too cheap to do it right, as I said before I have been talking to a guy who’s living it is to work on suspension for an OEM and Nitron themselves
Dude it’s steady cam, mounted on a slice of silicone… These roads are old and rough, why the hell do ya think there’s no one else around…
Oh well
I know that anything over about 800lb on an S1 and its the subframe thats flexing not your shocks moving. From what I hear the S2 subframe is even worse than the S1, so Jesus Frank thats pretty god damn stiff.
I say again Stiff springs are NOT where its at!!!
No one is a sheep on here mate, if anything the amount of dampers Randy has sold off the back of his racing success its you that are the sheep.
Randy if your reading this, you know I love you, just having my 2p’s worth mate.

Although it’s entirely possible the valving’s changed slightly on the later ones of these I wouldn’t be too hasty in upping the damper. 10/8 is my dry day track setting and only then is only really best on long sweeping corners/decent surface like donny. This time of year you may be better at 11/9 at somewhere like oulton or even 12/10 in rain or at Rockingham or you wont get enough weight transfer (mind those arches!). It all depends on the car/driver obviously but try not to be fooled that a stiff car can be driven faster as it breaks away more predictably, it’s limits may well be lower.

Thanks for the advice. Still early days.
Liked the vid, where is all the traffic ?
I thought some of the roads in the Alps were good until I watched that.
That road is 20 min. from down town Los Angeles, as you can see not all roads in LA are crowded, at least not the roads that could kill ya…
My bloated 2,150 lb. rocket pig uses solid mounts to tie the rear subframe together, if it’s flexing I can’t tell as there are no signs of stress fracture anywhere…
Maybe some track gods just have to blame the car for their shortcomings…
Yawn!!
