Very cheap 240R

Just had a quick look on trader and spotted this 240R

This seems very very cheap!

Shame it’s Black and an S2

That because it spent 4 months in Westover being totally rebuilt after a very very bad smash… new chassis the works…

whooo, shame the advert dosn’t say that, the sneeky buggers

Raises an interesting question, as the car was so new at the time (not even being driven by the owner… it was out being run in… for him!) a significant sum was spent on the rebuild paid for by the insurance… so I guess there is no offical record of it as it was never an insurance writeoff… so I guess they have no obligation to say anything… but there can’t be many non write off Exiges out there that have had to have a new chassis on insurance?

I would think that only a new car like this would be economically worth repairing and therefore not a write off.
If the car was rebuilt properly etc it should not be an issue - they were practically hand built by LMS in the first place.

Having seen it earlier in the year after the rebuild it did look totally new… Think it’s a bargin and if anyone buys it just check with Westover first to make sure they are happy to sort any niggles from the rebuild as it will be out of factory warranty now as it was registered the same day as mine and they only came with a year and hasn’t really been driven since the rebuild.

Shouldn’t it have a Q plate

Tim.

That’s probably why it’s 5K cheaper as the others on offer. Rebuilt should be no problem. The only question is how the base chassis was repaired (as it won’t have a nw chassis# I presume). All the other bits and pieces can replaced with new parts.

Thought it had a new chassis

Nope - they don’t do that anymore. SVA cars and repaired write-offs just get a registration from the appropriate year.

35k rebuilt vs a 40k mint car doesnt seem like that great a deal to be honest. It would always be in the back of my mind that it had been smashed, and crashed cars never “feel” right to me.

I think you are right although if you could haggle them down to 33500

Still, 33500 is still a lot of money - I would rather drive around with a warm feeling of owning a mint car inside me than driving about in a car that I knew had had a lot of accident repair work but still cost me over 30large ones…

Pays your money floats boats etc etc

If it was rebuild with all new parts (incl. a new chassis!) what’s the difference with a new car that comes straight from the Lotus factory?

Its not from the factory

Reminds me of Trigger from Only Fools + Horses… who had the same sweeping brush for 20 years… only changing the handle 5 times and the head 10 times.

i am truly grateful for this thread. this was the car i was going to buy and when i asked the guy who was selling it he had told me that it hadnt ever been crashed.
i believe the car is now sold and only hope that the new own is aware of the situation.
ps car was build number 6, cheers ed

glad this was some help to you ed. I am with the above, It would always be in the back of my mind that it had been smashed up at some time and i could have that. I would rather just buy a new exige s from the factory

Cant believe they had the balls to say no crash damage

I know Jamie, that is why people hate car dealers, you really can’t trust any of them
