If everyone is missing posts etc, then perhaps you may be able to contribute to solving my dilemma!
Old news yes… my Exige is gone… and as I said to ConMcl today, how could I ever replace it! When I started to add up the bucks spent then look at PH and add up the bucks to get a ‘basic’ non modded higher miler Exige S1 at 16K +++, then you get going to arrive at quite a sum!!!
Its so easy to end up wanting/needing to spend another 3-6K on mods!!!
So! Its ak the audience time! Do I stretch to;
A: A 2004 N/A higher miler Exige S2 but then cannot mod it and get ‘frustrated’!
B: Get a lower miler and cheaper earlier Elise S2 and then spend some bucks on suspension/Tyres/brakes to get a nice performing machine!
C: Get a high miler ‘cheap’ 120BHP S1 and spend more inclu the above and engine upgrades!!!???
D: None of the above (suggestions!)
30 seconds… starting NOW!
Cheers, Pete!
Need the Lotus fix… but need to be ‘sensible’ too and also keep SWMBO on side!!!
I had the same dilemma when i had the 111R. Mod it and spend ’s or swap for a similar price N/A S2 Exige PP which alreadly had some track mods as standard. I also prefer the look of the Exige as well. After that i did then go for the S1 as it’s how it performs on track is more important to me.
In your situation it all depends on money?
You want open top motoring
Track car
Keep her in doors happy
Not loose to much money
IMO, a early S2 Exige N/A Performance Pack car is excellent as standard and then in the future when funds allow mod it. You can take the roof off it and the air con will keep the other half happy.
If it were in your situation I would buy a 7k S1 shed, give it to someone I trust (JSRacing/Edwards Boys) and say “here’s a shed with 9k cash in the boot, come up with a way of spending it and let’s talk”.
We have just bought an S1 Elise for a customer for 5.5k, a geniune 65k car still with original ally brakes etc that we are going to mod to DEATH for him!! Watch this space its gonna be one serious bit of kit!!!
But if i were starting again I would go S1 elise and Exige body it etc etc The car we bought is a clean straight unmolested car, so they are out there at the right money if you look out for em.

Even better : “here’s an S1 Shed with a blank cheque in the boot, think of every conceivable idea for making it into something mind-bendingly mental and let’s talk”
Gotta be the way to go Pete, if you’re budget is 15-16 and a straight shed can be found for 5k.
I like the machine to look good/have been well looked after too…
So am now thinking a ‘nice’ S2 Elise and spend fewer bucks on Suspension/brakes etc…
I think this is because I have had a Lurverrly S1 Sport 160 prior to the Exige and dont want to ‘go back’!!!
The early ones have the ‘K’… (how much lighter is the ‘K’ compared with the Toyota anyway)??? and I like that motor lots!!! Pity the Sport 190’s are even higher that Exige S1 money!!!
Bear in mind if your reasonably quick on track the oe suspension on most S2 exiges isn’t really stiff enough for the tires and tends to trip over itself on tighter chicanes as it just wont shift the weight fast enough. It’s great for the road but depends where your priorities lie.
If you don’t want to stretch to an S2 exige + a bit for suspension/ARB/new brakes after a week if still on standard, for the easy life an S2 111s (156bhp). I think has a similar power/weight ratio as an n/a exige with better torque spread easier to use on track/day to day and is quiet as full of carpets and shit.
If you want more of a project a converted S1 has a lot going for it though, especially as you have the whole winter period to do it. You could even do an elige if you wanted the roof to come off. Stark will do you a DIY honda conversion for 5k iirc when the K blows.
How about this ?
i’ve been toying with the idea of selling for a while as I have too many
it’s basically track ready s2 elise k series with an exige body, the only down side is no engine or box, it had a honda in it but I sold it a couple of months ago.
pm me for details if it’s of interest.

‘Still on Standard’???
Don’t want a car full of shit!!! Unless there are drain holes etc.
Has anyone had any experience with the S2 111s? Seem like quite a few on PH’ds… there was a nice higher miler and loaded one was up at 12K ish… but now sold!
