Track days..baffled sump essential and what else?

When I picked my car up from Sincs a fortnight ago i mentioned to Wayne about my aims for some track days and driver tuition this year and he said I MUST fit one of their (or a Moroso) baffled sump.

Whats the general consencus on this? I would have thought that a relatively short circuit like Brands wouldnt require this?

Also whilst we’re at it what else is deemed essential? I’ve read that the Exige can suffer from suspension component failure if tracked a few times.

Any help much appreciated.

If you are new to trackdays you will be fine (unless you are a driving god), however with decent suspension and the proper tuition it won’t be long till you are putting the engine at risk of oil starvation in the high G corners. Make sure your oil is topped up and you should not have any trouble early on, I like some on here have an accusump but when my engine needs some work done on it I will also add a baffled sump like the Morosso.

PS in all seriousness I would get yourself the gearbox oil cooler from JSR and get some decent gear oil in it, it won’t save your gearbox, but it will extend it’s life

I would deffo fit a baffled sump. Brands is worse than some circuits, the last corner onto the start finish straight (indy circuit) is a fast 180 degree bend and you will build up some pretty high corner loads.

Haven’t heard of any suspension stuff that fails on S2’s. The rear toe links on S1’s are a must, but the S2 ones are fine.

Cheers Ade. Looking at the costs am I right in saying an accusump is twice the price in both parts and labour over a baffled sump?

Also Sincs were advising me to get their own design baffled sump as it doesnt leak oil like the Morosso. The missus will be miffed if I start leaking fully synth over the drive!

Steve … Clicky Here Sector 111, easier to fit than a Morso.

IMO you pair should at least have a baffled sump, I think you’d be nuts without one with that amount of power! I hear Essex do one as well but not as tasty as the G-Pan or Morso…should be easy to fit (I’ll let you know next month  )

Nice one Sean, ringing you now!

Yeah accusumps are not cheap. I have never used one, but always had a good gated baffle in the sump and ‘touch wood’ have had no problems upto now and I push my car pretty hard.

I haven’t seen the sincs sump bafffle, but I’m sure if wayne is putting his name to it, then there has been some proper thought put into it.

OK, if you want to chat to me call 07967 662294. If you want John at JSR call the number in my signature.

I was considering the G pan as well, not sure why people suggest you need these thing when you have a lot of power, these are only a defense against high G not big power

Ya don’t say, high G really, cheers Ade :astonished: … Don’t bother then, leave it, be fine. I shouldn’t have left it this long. Staying on cam longer I’m not leaving it to chance :astonished:

Cheers matey. Loving the look of that G Pan. That and my 2bular manifold should be hung on my office wall and not fitted to the car getting covered in shite.

Cheers Sean, spoke to John already!

Well you def should have one, you certainly go round corners quicker than me, that is why I use a talent enhancer

 not those big long ones…I hate playing catch up lol

Just been reading up on Exige engine failures due to track driving and it appears that as well as oil starvation issues several failures have been attributed to fuel starvation.

Does anyone make a fuel swirl tank? and if so anyone fitted one??

Yes Proalloy do one and say they can run down to 3litres before getting any fuel surge

Might as well fit a fire extinguisher & cut off switch too - a few Exiges have caught fire whilst on track. With that in mind, also get yourself into Nomex/CarbonX racesuit, & of course underwear. Then there’s the helmet, & Hans device to buy too.

Thanks Pesky. Do you also know of any securicor vans that leave a few grand in the back (would 5 cover it?) parked locally to me overnight and with the keys in? lol

Message received loud and clear. It’ll probably be alright on track, think I’ll just go with a baffled sump for now…I’ve changed the g/box oil for the MT stuff but will still take it easy.

Totally need a pair of yellow fronted brown backed Y fronts in heavy gauge cotton after my last escapade at the 'Ring.

lol…just re-read that.
