Throttle cable mod

Does the new bracket adjust the pivot point on the pedal down on it’s own or do you need to mount it slightly lower as well ?

p.s. Hello To SimonE and Nath who said hi on NYLOC

Matt

From what Sean says earlier, I thought you only had to move position of pedal bracket if you want short travel between zero and full throttle on th ecable ?? SO if I understand your question, then I think you can leave the new bracket fixed to the original place on the pedal… no ?

so you can mount the new bracket lower if you want more of an on/off throttle… i think !

As Roxx said!!

Using all standard mounting points the pedal travel is slightly longer. Either lowering the mounting point on the pedal or adjusting the point that the cable is mounted to on the TB’s (easy on the Jenveys) or a bit of both reduces tha pedal travel.

Sean

out of interest, what did you end up doing to get the cable travel the way you wanted it ?

also… what bloody diameter is that radiator fan

Thanks Rox point taken

My question relates to the fact that I’ve had some measurements done in the footwell (thanks S1mon) and this is what he found

BTW - Measurements on mine taken to first ali section of the dash i.e. what the existing bracket is bolted to (add 2cm to actual dash bottom)

at idle - 6.5cm
at full throttle - 8cm

1" down
at idle - 6.2cm
at full throttle - 8.6cm

(you could probably go about 1cm further down if needed)

I think all the above is probably going to be a little arbitrary as I’ve adjusted the start position of the throttle and also the throttle stop which would give you more travel also. Both of these have been adjusted on mine to allow the throttle peddle to be at the perfect height for healing and toeing.

The important figure to achieve IMO is 4cm (measured in footwell) of cable pulled to fully open the throttle body. (I’ve previously checked that it does fully open the throttle body with help of course!)

All this is on an elise 160TB - unfortunately I have no idea what the cable pull on an exige standard TB is, but was assuming the same amount of pull (same pivot/cable) ?

on a side note, the throttle lever linkage I designed is now for sale on Eliseshop and Eliseparts:

please note I don’t have any sort of commission or commercial interest on this item… just wanted to show the alternatives

Carlo, Glad to see your idea made it into production, I’m sure it’ll help alot of people (and perhaps me if I screw this up)

Oh + great remote stat work BTW, bought the bits + currently planning to install it in a friends elise (I already have a remote stat)

Is the stat the PRRT jobbie?

Not been a lot of discussion about successful installations of that on here and I’d be interested.

Ian

Heres Carlo site where I got all the info from Ian

http://web.tiscali.it/elise_s1/index.htm

plenty of reading for you

Cheers.

I think I have seen that before, but not the fitting guide.

“Early Elise S1, all cars with air conditioning, Elise S2 111S and cars with aftermarket oil/water heat exchanger do need a slightly different setup.”

Will therefore need a bit of thought due to A/c.

Any S1 Exiges done this yet? (may start separate post)

Ian

Right, finally got home + set about doing the mod

I hit a number of snags on my elise that I thought I’d post up for the benifit of any elise owners planning on doing this mod

  1. The cable is only just long enough to reach the TB across the pax side of the car - although it does reach

  2. The bracket at the pedal blocks the bonnet release catch which needed a little modification - which then meant that the cable needed adjusting at the catch

  3. The pedal needed adjusting a fair amount due to the excess of inner cable compared to outer cable, however with the TB end adjusted as far as possible the pedal end was at a nice heel and toe level

  4. The travel on the pedal is a little more than before (I’ll measure how much later) but it feels only a tiny bit longer with your foot

  5. On my test drive my foot caught the cable attachment a couple of times but I’m not sure where it was catching

  6. The routing of the cable under the sump is a little more tight than before but it does reach with no really tight turns

I’ve got some pictures of the mod (managed to crack my camera screen getting out of the footwell ) and I’ll post them up later

An easier mod for exige owners (esp with an adjustable TB), but not a worthwhile mod for elise owners IMO if your current cable is OK, just fit the eliseshop lever if thats your problem

Having said all that though I’m really pleased with the final result, the pedal is super smooth and direct and heel and toeing is much easier now the pedal is setup

I’m going to pop round to my friends and compare with his soon because I’ve not had a good throttle since November

Thanks very much to Sean for his guidance in doing this mod and of course this detailed thread

Hmmm, now that I see the layout I see that it will not work for us with big feet (size 12 here).

My feet constantly touch the steering shaft, just by the joint, so it would interfere as well with the wire coming off the throttle lever

not long before I launch my prototype throttle bracket with ball bearing for an easier solution to this problem

Watch this space

Well, I already have a list of stuff I want from you, the carbon dash, the clutch bracket, and this throttle bracket you mention.

Just hurry up!

I’m going as fast as I can
not long now

I don’t believe him!!

don’t you start

No if you’ve got big feet then you’d have a problem

Like I said if you’ve got adjustable throttle bodies then you can get away with keeping the attachment nice and high - I’ve measured the travel on mine now and the pedal movement has only increased my 2mm - I could have mounted it higher but then I’d have had a much longer pedal travel

A decent lever arrangement on a decent strength bracket would be a good solution, I had to change the cable anyway so I thought I’d give it a bash

Maddog - your site looks like it’s going to be very interesting when it’s all live, must remember to pop back and check it again

matt

thanks for the extra info on his mod

sorry to hear you cracked your camera.
