Thought it was running rough !!!

Fooooook me that looks messy - its a miracle the driver got out of that in one piece !

Nasty business that! Still, at least the drivetrain should be salvageable, given the work that’s gone into it, that’s a small consolation at least.

Bloody Hell that does look a bad one!!

[quote=TarmacTerrorist]I would have thought the fact it’s been over several times has caused it deform so much… Glad to hear everyone is ok though looked like it was a scary ride!!

It’s a shame because it was a rare car aswell…

All of the 240R’s and CUP cars are fitted with the T45 motorsport roll hoop as standard which is made from a stronger material but under the same conditions (multiple roll) i imagine it wouldn’t look much different from above unless you had the ‘A’ frame bolted in place to support the main hoop from collapsing.

Apparently after speaking to the guys at the factory quite a few of the later ‘standard’ cars were also fitted with the T45 motorsport hoop but they are not detailed as having them fitted. The only way to tell if you have one or not is to simply remove the internal trim that covers the roll bar going over the top of your head. If it is a smooth bar going all the way across it is the standard bar, if there is a bolt point/boss in the centre of the bar it is the T45 model (it’s where the ‘A’ frame bolts to the roll bar).

If anyone is interested i have a couple of brand new Lotus Sport ‘A’ frames which come with a removable petty bar to fit the S2 T45 roll over hoop.

The Exige S when fitted with the sports pack (ie harness bar) is stated as coming with a T45 roll-over hoop. Is that the same one you refer to as fitted to the 240r and cup cars?

Bloody hell that accident looks bad!

How much for one delivered? On the understanding I have the correct roll hoop already!

Yes!

T45 simply denotes the type of steel that the roll over hoop is made of. The standard hoop and T45 hoop look virtually identical other than the T45 has fixing positions for the separate bolt in ‘A’-frame and front cage section.

If you want to go racing the roll cage has to be made from T45 otherwise it wont pass scrutineering. In the UK (under MSA rules) the T45 hoop on its own is not enough to pass. As a bare minimum you need to use it with the A-frame bolted in place (also made from T45) which makes it a MSA approved 4-point cage. After that you can either use a petty bar to make it a 5-point cage or use the full front section to make it a 6-point cage. AFAIK when the T45 hoop, ‘A’-frame and full front cage section are used together it is the only FIA approved 6 point cage design for the s2 elise/exige.
