If two bolts on the vernier were loose then it’s small wonder it slipped! Checking that all vernier bolts are tight surely should be periodic maintenance on a race engine?
It was a road going car and had done 5,000 mls since the last re-fresh (before i owned the car)
I have never heard of anyone checking the tightness of the vernier bolts periodicly to be honest, something you would never expect to come loose !
Def interested in the Emerald and gearbox Chris
Just got the car up and running again, had the VHPD re-built in the end.
Still running it in at the moment but feels very very nice, love the VHPD when its on full chat
Rotten luck with the verniers. Did you ever adjust them after their initial set up? Maybe a solution would be to use lockwire to ensure they can’t come loose, or loctite the threads, otherwise I can see it happening again oweing to the forces and vibration involved.
Glad to read you’ve got it up and running, K all the way!
Cheers,
Kurt
Well, the car was running perfectly, Simons engines really are something else, unfortunately the car clipped a banking and rolled several times in the south of France last thursday.
Thankfully no serious injuries
Be carefull chaps !!

thats looks horrible, gald no one got seriously hurt…
Bloody hell!!!
Very pleased to hear no serious injuries.
Were you driving (alone?) Chris?
Wow, glad no one was hurt. Worrying how much the roll hoop has deformed.
Yep I was thinking that
Crickey thats a scary sight glad your ok
Yep I was thinking that [/quote]
That makes 3 of us, doesn’t one of the packs give us a stronger roll bar? I think it is the sport pack? Can I just fit a petty bar? too many thoughts…
Glad to see all were ok though
I wasn’t driving, i sold it to a dealer in the south of France on wednesday, i dont think a petty bar would have made any difference really, it was obviously a very violent roll, notice how the screen surround just snaps off, you would expect some kind of strengthener to be in there but its just fibreglass and expanding foam.
Chris
Glad it wasn’t you, but obviously pleased the driver is okay.
Personally I’m not keen on “petty bars” - how do you exit the car if the driver’s door won’t open (think car up against tyre wall & on fire!).
It’s hard to judge how well the roll hoop/windscreen surround stood up, without knowing the details of the accident eg speed, number of rollovers, trees/rocks/obstructions hit during the rolls etc.
On the face of it (it looks like heavy impact!), if someone has come out of that largely unscathed, then the car has done its job.
Was there a passenger?
This is what the Edwards Boyz fitted to mine in 2008
That is scary
Makes me wonder if ‘CUP’ like cages should be fitted in all cars. The front screen surround is a big worry…
Glad the driver got out. Bloody lucky I reckon.
I would have thought the fact it’s been over several times has caused it deform so much… Glad to hear everyone is ok though looked like it was a scary ride!!
It’s a shame because it was a rare car aswell…
All of the 240R’s and CUP cars are fitted with the T45 motorsport roll hoop as standard which is made from a stronger material but under the same conditions (multiple roll) i imagine it wouldn’t look much different from above unless you had the ‘A’ frame bolted in place to support the main hoop from collapsing.
Apparently after speaking to the guys at the factory quite a few of the later ‘standard’ cars were also fitted with the T45 motorsport hoop but they are not detailed as having them fitted. The only way to tell if you have one or not is to simply remove the internal trim that covers the roll bar going over the top of your head. If it is a smooth bar going all the way across it is the standard bar, if there is a bolt point/boss in the centre of the bar it is the T45 model (it’s where the ‘A’ frame bolts to the roll bar).
If anyone is interested i have a couple of brand new Lotus Sport ‘A’ frames which come with a removable petty bar to fit the S2 T45 roll over hoop.
No passenger as far as im aware Rob, the car rolled four times, cant believe he didn’t get thrown out !!
It only had standard seatbelts as i had removed the harnesses, it still had the harness bar fitted which probably helped as well

I very much doubt it… There is no triangulation with just the harness bar bolted across, it would have had little or no effect on the outcome.
From the picture it looks like it probably helped stop the roll hoop folding inwards any more and collapsing completely, for sure it will have made it quite a bit more rigid
Holy moley that looks a frightening sight - very lucky person
