The way that if you click on a link that someone has put in their post, it doesn’t open a new window/tab, but opens it in your existing window/tab… I am always clicking on a link, then closing it and realising that I no longer have an Exiges.com window/tab.
(perhaps hate is a strong word, but you know what I mean)
The most annoying part for me is that unless you read every single thread, the index still shows that you have unread posts
At least with the old format once you visited a section & came out of it, it showed you had read everything there, whether you had or not…much easier for me
Yea, but every other forum I use opens a new tab/window when you click, so I have to keep remembering to do it on here… would be a lot easier if the forum configuration just made it so…
Can I put in a plea for a more positive tone in the feedback? I am sure David would like the forum to be an ever improving pleasant ‘corner of the pub’ (as I seem to recall him phrasing it in the past) but we have no right to it and I really enjoy it so wouldn’t want that gratitude (which I know also exists in others) to get lost however valid the input.
Why? Because there’s a difference between honest feedback and moaning and I think the former is more effective than the latter and tends to have more of an effect (especially when it’s somebody else’s software, hosting, URL, time, etc). But now I’m moaning about moaning! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t consider David sensitive but I’d rather he wasn’t needlessly pissed off.
Do I think the new forum layout has been a success? Not really. Would I have seen a new forum engine and fancied trying it out? Yeah probably. Would I implement suggested changes from the community? Yes, when I had the time. Would I make the time if I was mildly aggravated by the feedback? Eventually.
Just my tuppence. This is the Internet so I’m comfortable for my opinion to be dismissed as a soft southern hippy throw back.
Smilies especially as there is now more scope for expression, I felt in the last version they were a bit limited. As for visiting less or the fact it seems quiet, the four sites I visit are all generally the same with regular posters making up the bulk of the posts, unless it’s technical.
