I know its not much, but there is hope (albeit very little), good luck either way.

David

two week ban min i would have thought.bend over and take it like a man.

take alook here—http://www.pepipoo.com/

I dont know, there are often loop holes, like that guy who got caught doing ridiculous speeds by a mobile van, but because it was concealed it was over turned, then theres that aussie lawyer who basically told the authorities to prove the scameras authenticity, they couldnt, he got away scot free.

Moral is, dont give up too easily

That’s quite a bit over the limit - what do you think you were doing.

Might not make myself popular, but if you were doing anything over 40mph then you deserve to get the book thrown at you…

rubbish - not even going to start that tangent of the conversation

i thought that double the speed limited in any case was a instant removal of license for 12 months. I hope i am wrong though mate. good luck

Spending in a 30 is a little naughty…double the limit I think could be anything from a fine or a ban, unless you can prove your car is your livelihood. Sorry to be dealer of bad news…

AFAIK (having been there once myself ) more than 30mph above the limit means a ban, irrespective of whether you have any points or not.

The good news is these 'instant’speeding bans are usually from a couple of weeks up to a couple of months, & as with any ban, your points will be wiped clean on return of your license. The ban will remain on your license for 4 years though. You’ll do well to get off road insurance for the car during the ban. Not all companies will ofer it though…try Footman James

Best just own up & take it like a man

Tim.

own up to nothing mate!!!
1st i don’t believe anyone or most people on here has never broke the speed limit???
2nd is your car not for sale? was it not on a test drive?

don’t get me wrong guys i don’t agree with speeding!
but he must be feeling like sh_t at the moment and i don’t think he as posted on here to be told to “bend over and take it like a man”

If the registered keeper can’t prove who was driving, you get done anyway & the magistrate will take a dim view, as it’s all been tried before.

Accept the (offence) & punishment & be respected for it (by the magistrate), or fight (knowing you were speeding), lose & get a bigger fine & ban.

It’ll cost more in lawyers & insurance to stand up & fight when you know it’s a fair cop (which I’m assuming you do )

Tim.

PS Yes, everyone on here prob has been speeding (to-day ) but 60+ in a 30mph limit just isn’t clever Sorry.

Well there are plenty of 30 mph dual carriageways in Nottinghamshire, I can name 2 stretches (with central reservations) that, this year, have been reduced from a 70 mph to 40 mph and 70 mph to 30 mph.

Both these cases, still, however, have a stretch that goes from a 70mph to either 40mph or 30mph. Guess where the camera van sits?

I can also think of a good few roads that were NSL single carriageways but are now 30mph for no “apparent” reason. It seems that councils are now setting speed limits themselves.

No need to assume that this was past a school, residential area, etc.

Sorry to hear this, Exigeboy.

When summoned to court make sure you attend rather than pleading guilty by post. It shows you are taking it seriously enough to show up and eat humble pie.

Exigeboy, wont help this time but ever think about laser jammers? I, like everbody, tend to creap over the limit at times, i dont have a detector/gps thing cos if i dont see a fixed camera then i personally think i deserve to get done, however i do object to sneakily placed laser vans in areas where limits change and you may not be slowing down quick enough. So far in five years they have saved me three times from this sort of thing. My attitude is fight fire with fire.
Gav

Since 10 of us got caught out by a camera van on the bristol run a few years back i have’nt had much faith in detectors and jammers seeing as the guy i was behind had all the bells and whistles and not one went off.Best defence is to be alert and only(not condoning)enjoy your cars when safe to do so, certainly not in a 30 limit.

True, maybe. But it won’t help in court

True, & they’ll still ban you B@st@rds

Tim.

Thats where a friendly plod with laser gun can come in handy after installation! aledgedly!
Gav

thanks for the various messages. current plan is to take it on the chin and hope for just a couple of weeks ban.

some more details:

  • caught bang to rights by a handheld laser gun @ 482 feet
  • 2 coppers present
  • no photographic evidence, just the reading on the gun
  • central london
  • no schools or hospitals but probably shouldnt have been going that fast, although road should be a 40 zone for sure
  • no points on license ever, in 8 years
  • no crashes or claims in 8 years

as i understand it ban could range from 2 weeks to 1 year, and might or might not have to take test again?

havent yet received summons, should come within 2 weeks i think

lets see if the judge will take into account my otherwise good driving history??

fingers crossed

any more than 2 months and i’ll kill myself (no, really)

“any more than 2 months and i’ll kill myself (no, really)”

Better than mowing someone down at 62mph in a 30.

/sympathy.

not really going to bother going down that tangent to this conversation either

  1. Go to Pepipoo.com and research
  2. Ask for photographic evidence using templates provided
  3. Provide list of possible drivers
