Took my car for the MOT last week and I have about 1.7mm on both rear tyres. Yes I know I’m cutting it fine. At the moment I have R888s love the tyre but this year with the weather being rubbish and now going to start using the exige more for work again. I think I will need a more of an all round weather tyre. I have looked into T1Rs but get a mixed review but don’t really know much in the R1R. Can anyone help to lead me in the right direction?
Don’t put T1R’s on. They are are rubbish. I am running R1R’s and find them a great tyre. My car is used on the road at weekends and trackdays and the R1R’s are a great tyre for both.
Do bear in mind that the R1R is a compromise. On track, you won’t have the outright grip of an R888 and on road, you won’t clear as much water as a T1R. But the R1R does sit nicely between them for road/track use.
I was at Croft on Friday and did have to ease off a little going into the corners compared to cars on R888’s. But you can get good drive round and out of the corners. Overall, I was lapping quite well, not quite as fast if I was on R888’s, but quick enough.
My opinion is you will hate the T1R’s and recommend the R1R’s
Cool. Thanks for the reply . Will stay away from T1Rs
Oh one thing! What is the mileage difference between R1Rs to R888
R1R’s last a little longer than R888’s, but I can’t remember how much more. Sure someone will be along in a bit with an accurate figure.
the difference between the R1R and T1R is the front size NO…?
you can get the t1r in 195, but the r1r only in 205 i believe. although it shouldnt be a problem…
deffo r1r over t1r…
Hi guys, I’m a newbie with 2007 Exige S running the Supersport package - wheels, suspension (and I think, tyres, LTS Yokos)
The rears are nearing the end of their life - looks like they have done about 5k miles from the service history. Fronts are ok.
Road use only for the time being.
Are 205s on the front a good bet? any drawbacks etc. how do R888s and R1Rs compare with the Yokos?
Any advice gratefully received.
PS love the car - much more fun that previous 997S
I run 888’s mostly on track wet and dry, love them to bits and great VFM. I always thought R1R’s looked like the perfect choice for the road but have never had the need, again look like great VFM.
Welcome btw
R1-R is a much better tyre but obviously at a higher cost. The front is still only available as a 205/45/16, the normal rear is 225/45/17
I think we do full set at around 540 inc VAT, I’m sure Camskill will beat that just to annoy me though!
We’ve got quite a few customers with multiple sets of wheels who use R888 for dry and R1R for wet track days and road use.
Ditto

Thanks - great to be in the forum!
Having had T1Rs since my original 048s wore out, I am reasonably happy with them. at least they dont attempt to spit you off wet roundabouts.
I dont do many track days, commute twice a week, and live on the Pennines where it rains. … Lots and lots.
I have to say they feel better when worn a bit, and when I remember to reduce the pressures for the track.
So R1Rs. …
Not sure about the wider and lower profile front.
Anyone care to comment whether that will induce more understeer or doesnt it make any difference.
Any other mid-range tyre suggestions ??
I was going to ask what the difference will be on the fronts being 205s
Just looked on camskill and out of bloody stock in the R1-R
Have a look at AD08’s if you can’t get R1R’s.
I have a few sets in stock for S1 and S2

This. Love mine to bits. Not a fan of T1R’s. At all.
Yeah camskill have the AD08 is stock at 240 for a set of rears are they a good tyre then? Cheers for helping only have about 50 miles left on the R888
I’m using AD08s - put them on for 2k Euro trip last September, which included a Spa trackday & a 20 min session on the Nurburgring F1 circuit.
Tyres performed well but can’t compare with 888s or 48s on track (could have been down to my crap driving though!)
