Suspension upgrades??

Sean’s racecar IIRC

I’m running 46mm Ohlins 2 ways.

Been very pleased with them both on and off track.

Thye are getting on for 5 years old and no probs to report.

Have you had to have them serviced in that

Just had the 46mm Ohlins I bought off Tal serviced/repaired by Aurok. IMO upon arrival they were in shocking condition possibly couldn’t of been any worse, which was no wonder he didn’t post pictures… Springs almost entirely rusted, I had new fitted but could have gone for powder coating. Bodies anodised as also rusted. Two end eyes replaced, a new hose, seal rebound adjusters and knobs, ball joints, spec changed from Plans to JSR and some other little bits and bobs. Cost was 1k, service was excellent and now they look like new…BRAND new! Like Gav my 36mm Ohlins still look and work like new after being on my car and Evo’s for a few 4 or so years now.
So might have been better buying new then ???

No not quite Chris

Me too!

How does it compare as i have a 1 way Nitron for both on track and street?

Any talk about dampers can only be subjective and it’s really very difficult to get balanced opinions from people who’ve already parted with their cash! The only way to get any actual data is to line them up on a shock-dyno and test them, and all that you’ll end up with is a graph anyway.

The thing with any adjustable dampers is that while you can get things set up just rights it’s also easy to get things wrong and end up dismissing them as poor. The multi-way adjustable dampers like I’ve got can improve (or ruin!) things further simply as you can be even more specific with your requirements.

All I can really say on the Ohlins is that the damping range, quality and consistency is the best I’ve ever experienced.

Yeah 46mm Ohlins is the ONLY way I roll!!!

Had two way adjustables on my S1 for about 6 years and I have converted many people over to them in that time.

One way adjustables on my S2.

be good to get a selection of shocks, and do a timing day shootout with ride quality taken into account on the same car.

Yeah would be great, but could you imagine the flack afterwards when we come to the realisation that the standard Billies are the best. hahahahahaha

I agree with the dyno plots. I had my nitrons dynod, and it showed up inconstancy between them means you have to run different click of the dampening left to right to get the same performance.

My mates got the 211 ohlins fitted to his exige , and they are a brilliant on the road! Saying that there has been a lot of known failures of the Ohlins with the ones fitted to the exige/vxr220 from the factory.

Tee Hee …that’s would be defo on the cards

I’m sure Nitron would lend a pair, as would ohlin and Quantum. Same geo for each test etc.

Ha yes, stock as a shock winner (bad pun alert)

Shame there isnt really a Lotus mag like you’d find in WH for other marques, this would be right up their street. Also miss old ‘Track and Race Car’ mag.

I’ve been looking for a Hustler GT - bet it’s a real goer !!!

Be useful if we could compare other dyno graphs…heres a copy of mine.

They are custom valved though.

Good to see but could be difficult to compare - all my Force/displacement graphs are in N and mm/sec instead of pounds and inches. Even my Dynamics ones from many years ago are all N and mm too.

you have PM

you have PM
2 ways have individual adjustment for bump and rebound and they are the best way to go when you really get into it. I have those on my race car. My S2 is just for track days and B road blasts, so a 1 way is what I wanted for ease of adjustment. However the 1 way settings are based on my race car 2 way settings, so I have the settings of my 2 ways built into my 1 ways.

The biggest difference I have noticed between Ohlins and Nitrons is how much more adjustable Ohlins are and how much easier it is to get the setup and balance right. I have driven and set up a load of Nitron cars and raced them too, and you just dont get the feed back and the feel from a Nitron that you do with an Ohlin, and I’m no demon driver either.

All just my opinion of course
OK a simple question, what is the best basic setting to start with for Ohlins dampers, before going down the confusing road of making adjustments ???

I used to race a 5 litre Morgan ,internationally , 10 years ago, I used Spax’s , which were then the dogs bollocks,. I could take Eau Rouge flat with them wound up to mid setting on the front, and backs wound fully on,
