Stripped 3rd gear!

Wow spectacular failure, there certainly have been some final drive failures as well, I know Jubu used to do a final drive kit but it was straight cut so I didn’t bother with it, does anyone do a stronger one that isn’t straight cut?

Was it Will who had a final drive failure after he took out his noisy straight cut one?

Yep :frowning:

Sorry to hear that. I have the Kaaz set in mine as well, running similar power, so interested in your experience.
When I rebuilt from standard, I agonised about what ratios to run with the Kaaz set, and ended up with a 3.9 final drive which gives me a decent balance between sprint gearing and a usable top gear for motorway. 1st to 5th is all close with a taller 6th for longer journeys. It works out really well for track - I just hit the top of 5th at the end of hangar straight in the dry which is 127mph according to the vbox.
In gear max (at 7800rpm) are 51, 68, 87, 109, 127 and then theoretically 162mph in 6th, which gives me a motorway cruising 80mph ish of 4k rpm

Until I can afford a Sadev 'box and another fun car to fill in for the on the road use, Kaaz with a 3.9 and LSD still appears to be the way to go for me.

Ive got the SSC final drive. I recall it’s semi helical. Certainly not noisy ( relatively!)

Dupe post deleted…

Yes I had the original Jubu straight cut final drive. Couldn’t live with it due to noise so put the standard one back in. Two track days later and stripped several teeth from the standard one. Absolutely kicking myself.

Now running the Jubu semi helical and also a Celica 6th gear to bring the 6th ratio back to nearer standard for motorway work. The semi helical wasn’t available when I’d first had the box built. Like the combination of overall shorter ratios but 6th still as it was for the longer slogs.
