Stage 3 kit?

No idea how Plans source theirs though. Anyone want to ask Graham to post up what it is and what it does? Any warranty issues with it?

PS. BFODING means that I wholeheartedly agree with the statement that if you are so interested in the reflash then phone Graham at Plans and ask him instead of idly speculating on here.

One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead men got up to fight,
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came and shot those two dead boys,
If you don’t believe this story’s true,
Ask the blind man; he saw it too.

Here’s what I was told by a Lotus employee here in the States:

It’s coming, but they’re not sure when - believe they were still sorting CARB (silly strict California requirements).

Expect it to be a reflash, exhaust, and ???. No word on price, but I was told to expect 15-20hp.

I rolled my eyes, ordered another pint, and stopped listening closely shortly after “15-20hp” as I have a hard time seeing that out of the 'Yota with primarily software and exhaust.

well said Gav! This is nearly as pointless as a K Series “she said my engines bigger than yours” thread!

As one of the blind me I would have to say this is spot on Gav But hey, nothing like a bit of blind speculation to liven up a dull day at work

BTW, having exchanged PMs with Nick (elisesport), lets just say there are understandble reasons for his slighty exasperated tone above

Hi

I’ve only not commented because I haven’t been on here for a while.

There is no conspiracy or under-the-counter stuff going on.

The ECU is available from Plans as an outright purchase or a reflash.

Most owners decide to do this as then they have the standard one to put back on when you sell the car. A new ECU is very easy to fit. You simply unplug the old one, put it in a safe place and plug in the new one. The replacement one will allways have a good second hand value.

Also, if you want a reflash then your car will be out-of-action whilst you send the ECU to us.

They come from Lotus and the price is set by Lotus.

As it all now seems to be out in the open…

I have had a reflashed ECU for a while. I was told there was an embargo on discussing it on the web.

Its an excellent upgrade, mine is combined with an ITG/Level 2/Sports cat.A new manifold is planned shortly.

It transforms the car into what it should have been from day one. Cam change is lower and therefore it remains on cam as you accelerate up through the box without resorting to crashingly fast gear changes. Acceleration out of slower corners is a vast improvement as you can hold a higher gear, not having to be on the rev limit in say 2nd before you exit.

It doesn’t transform it into an Exige S but it is well worth doing. Heartily recommended… beat a path to Graham’s door at Plans.

Thanks for the update Graham.

Do you know what the situation is on the warranty? I.e. Will lotus honour the warranty if the new ECU is in place?

Graham, thanks for the info. I’m very interested in this. Can you tell us more? Specifically:

Price for a reflash?

Any changes in the ECU other than changing the cam switch-over point, and adjusting the map to suit?

Lotus’ warranty position.

Other changes recommended to suit the new ECU (induction/exhaust)?

Do you have torque graphs to illustrate the benefit?

At precisely what rpm is the cam change?

Thanks again,
Brendan

Yup, 795 for ECU, 395 for reflash. Just need to know if 06MY or prior (Electric throttle or not)

Some Dealers know you know

Rob

Hey, it’s nice having somebody from my local dealer coming on here with useful info Cheers Rob

Any ideas on my other questions?

395 seems pretty steep for a reflash. Can you do me a discount

Brendan, YHM

Thanks, so do you

would be interested to see dyno results with this new change over point. Anyone know if there is one available?!

Thanks, so do you

So, is this now released to the dealer network? Fully expecting my local dealer (Murrays in Edinburgh) to be clueless - they usually are!

What, on the fact that Murrays are clueless, or on whether dealers can do the reflash? Go on, do tell!

The ECU has to be sent to Motorsport, can’t be done at a Dealership.

Murrays? They’re abroad arn’t they?

Group buy

Is there any reason why it can’t be done on an exchange basis?

I’m up for a bit of flashing so to speak. Does the ECU re-flash disable the learning mechanism? i.e. allow more bhp from things like induction, sports cat and free flowing exhausts?
