The ECU has to be sent to Motorsport, can’t be done at a Dealership.
Is there any reason why it can’t be done on an exchange basis?
 I guess
There’s more profit in selling a new ECU!

Logistics I guess, Lotus would need a “pool” of flashed new ECU’s and then have to make sure they got the old ones back, what use is an old ECU to them? It could be faulty etc etc… I can see why they want to do it this way.
I am told that not all ECU’s can be reflashed - only those with a ‘B’ prefix. Older units with an ‘A’ prefix will have to replace the ECU.

Think I would prefer to go for a reflash rather than a new ecu, so I will need to have a look at my car this evening to see if its an A or B. Take it this is visible on the cover of the ECU? Don’t suppose you happen to know when the changeover was - my car was built April 05.

Don’t know where the serial no. is on the ECU, its only a 10 minute job to take it out though. There are locking catches on the 2 loom plugs that need to be slid outwards before you can unplug them to remove the unit.
Would expect it to be a “B” serial… unless its an old batch of ECU’s on a later car of course

Murrays? They’re abroad arn’t they?
Rob, how long does it take for Lotus to reflash the ECU. How long could I expect the car to be out of action.

We reckon no more than 5 working days. In theory should be 3 days but with a combination of the postal service and Lotus Motorsport don’t hold me to that!

Cheers Rob…thats not so bad. Use mine everyday but I could just about cope with 5 days…

LOL! Mine was nearly 3 weeks … they were busy

It’s on a sticker on the front of the ECU underneath the Lotus engraving.
Unfortunately mine is an A spec so I’ll be paying extra but from what I’ve heard it’s well worth it.
So who’s got their car booked to do this? BK will be doing my car in the next few weeks.

I think this is why Lotus Motorsport held things back. If they were super busy testing something like a track car for example then there might not be enough resource at the factory (read as ‘small tin shed’ ) for them to cope with the demand hence wait until things are a bit quieter so they can get your ecu refresh or replacement done in a timely fashion.
Although I’d have thought that those going from an A to a B spec will be able to turn up and just pick up the part as there is no exchange as such???
Having done exchanges for stuff in the past it can be a royal pita with people holding deposits and all sorts so I think this method of sending yours back will work out fine. In fact I’m sure some of the better places will have a spare ECU or 2 so you can continue to drive your car whilst your ECU is off at Lotus Motorsport.
sorry if this is answered earlier in the thread but could some just clarify what the ecu reflash/replacement does? does it just simply low the cam change?
Yes.
Does anyone know what RPM the cam change will occur? Also I read somewhere that the existing ECU cancels out any advantages that exhaust and induction mods may have. Is this the case with the new ECU?
Cheers
It shifts the cam switch point from 6200 to
5700
I wouldn’t have thought Exhaust etc would be affected as it’s purely bringing in the second cam earlier.
940 for 500 RPM
Lotus know how to make the money.
You can decide if you think it’s worth it. I personally am getting mine done even though I have to go from A-spec ECU.
The change point is the only thing that has been annoying me with the exige tbh and this cost to me is worth it.
I believe the cam change is at 5,500 rpm. It may not sound much but it means you won’t have to rev to 8,500 in order to be in 2nd cam on the upshift…
Flash is 395 and new ECU is 800.

That’s the key for me. I find it really frustrating and almost impossible keeping it on 2nd cam.
Yeah, day to day driving and having to drop into second to overtake people is my biggest gripe. I’d rather just be able to floor it in 3rd
I think the cost is pretty good really as you’d spend 400 on an Exhaust and it won’t last forever plus I guess Motorsport have had an amount of cost in the R&D to get this product working legally.
