That’s a great pic that ‘starts’ to give a scale of the place. What an epic circuit
I was also just watching some vid and came across this one onboard the fantastic Mazda 767B.
I also found a vid of this guy who was trying to get under 3:30 by seeing if he could complete a lap before the end of that awful ‘Cheeky Girls’ track (which happened to be 3:30 long)
Awesome track, glad you all had a good time. Wish I could have been there. Ben, gutted for you mate that you didn’t get to drive your beast around what in my opinion is the greatest circuit on the planet.
As normal we had a great time as is almost compulsory on any Exiges trip, meeting up for dinner and beers as well as the odd spot of driving. Obviously gutted for Ben and would have been more than happy to let you have a tear round in the 2-eleven. Glad Dave managed to persuade you to take the Caterham out, as that certainly put a smile back on your face.
Have a few pics but not to the standard of Ben’s, but for anybody who is interested.
After the infamous Spa 2011 incident, always best to check your nuts (so I’m told!), easier when its only 1 per corner.
As well as Spa we decided to do the Thurs at Zolder, so had a day to kill on the Wed. Considered a trip over to the Nurburgring but neither the ring or GP track were opening till 6pm, so decided to give it a miss.
We dropped the 2-eleven at Zolder and then headed to a Classic dealer North of Brussels. Like visiting a museum with some really interesting cars that I hadn’t heard of.
This was from an Italian tuner called Bandini, who specialised in building his own cars and putting 750 & 1l Fiat engines into his cars. Somehow this one ended with a straight 6 Maserati instead. The car supposedly weighs less than 500kg incl. engine so should be quite an entertaining drive.
You don’t see one for years and then you’re tripping over the bloody things!
Another small volume Italian tuner called Stanguellini, think this did have a 1l engine.
The workshop was a real Aladdins cave, mostly with old Astons for some unknown reason. This was being converted from to lhd being a UK car. The attention to detail was incredible, you would never have known it hadn’t left the factory that way.
As far as we could determine this was just in for a routine service.
This on the other hand had been subject to a full nut and bolt restoration, totally immaculate.
Didn’t take many pics at Zolder, have a few bits of video if I can figure out how to post. I really liked Zolder and would been keen to go back again. Maybe better as the appetiser to Spa though.
First time on track with one of these and the widest rear tyres of any car race car I’ve ever seen (F1 and Le Mans prototypes incl.)
Great to see you both and to meet Syd and his fantastic machine! I appreciate that you guys would have given me a drive but I was just not in the zone,…appreciated anyways.
Love the pics from the dealer, that blue Aston is glorious
My favourite quote of the trip was from Syd was when I commented on his nice P1 helmet bag; he explained that they give you a lid sprayed the same colour as your car when you buy a P1, but that he thought it was a bit poncey to bring that so he bought his standard lid…to drive his F40 I love things like that, all credit to him for using such a fantastic machine on circuit!
Wow Yvonne what a great write up! I do remember said 2011 incident very clearly but not as clearly as you guys, lucky escape! Great pictures. If Syd needs a new best friend I’m here for him
