No doubt this has been asked before, but…my car has the A/C (& ‘fettled’ at the Factory). What improvement could i expect from fitting a mesh grille to the rear no plate mounting?Or even a vented rear hatch as on the race version?
The cabin is NOTICEABLY cool when on track. PLUS [sounding like a TV advert] I have found the engine behaves better as it doesn’t get as hot whilst lapping. It’s a simple upgrade that is a no-brainer for tracked Exiges (which are the only Exiges there should be!).
I just removed the plate, cut two large holes behind it and reattached it with velcro. Simply pulls off when I get to the track. Mike lane has a very sexy drilled out pattern (and I’ll let him explain the v.sad lengths he went to to make the pattern! ).

Buy me a pint and I’ll tell you !!
One useful tip is that if you mount the numberplate on 2cm extensions it is still within the numberplate recess, but there will be a large gap around the edges where the hot air can still escape…
Which is very handy when running on the road…

And some hot nuts wasn’t it??! (oh boy, we’re back on those again!)
Ian
The Motorsport engine cover makes a huge difference to the temperature. And it looks cool
On the downside, you get bugger all rear visibility, and you can expect to pay close to a grand by the time it’s painted and fitted.

Ian, you are right, I actually used wing nuts on the inside, for easy removal and refitting - works a dream

hey Mike, can you please post a pic of this modify?
thanks,
Alberto
I am seeing AndyD on Saturday, and he has a digicam, so I’ll get a few shots taken and post them up…
Andy - this OK?
On the other hand, you can check out my modifications here
As on Mike’s, my number plate is extended (using the standard mounting but reshaped) and there is a large gap where the air can flow.
On track you can take it off, but I use another very small plate for that.
Mike
No problem - just make sure I remeber to bring it
Uldis, thanks for pics… well done!
can you really feel the cockpit colder?
and… does the bi-adhesive stay well even whit the hot air flux?
ciao
Yes you really can feel the difference!
The cabin is cooler, and you can feel a massive difference when you touch the rear cabin window. The engine also behaves better as it doesn’t get as hot.
I always know after 10 minutes when I’ve forgotten to remove the plate on my first session.
Ian
I’m pleasured to hear this, 'cause you can image how hot is Italian east coast in summer…
another question: at what price could I find a used (or even new) motorsport rear shell?
thanks
Yes, cooler.
But not only that. The Exige’s cabin is not made properly.
There are a few things you need to do:
-seal the small holes in the back of the bulkhead
-check the seals from the back that go from there to the sills (behind seat belts tensioning reels)
-seal the two holes: handbrake cable and the one on top (between the seats, low down)
-seal the holes behind the dash that communicate with the sills just in front of the doors (behind cointray). This can be done with big sponges.
-check that when you select cold air from the vents actually cold air is coming out (mine had a problem with the flapper valve when it was new)
Look for my name on bookatrack’s galleries.
I’ve taken pics of most of these things.
Ciao!
Picture of my mine Here

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHH a laser blue Exige! my Elise mk2 is in the same colour, I LOVE IT!
-end of OT-
Uldis, parli italiano vero?
non ho capito bene… ci sono dei buchi da tappare??
I’ve also got lots of holes in my back panel (and that’s nothing to do with my surgeon ) but I haven’t gone as far as cutting the recesses out completely. My next mod will be to fit ‘extractors’ to the polycarbonate cover. I’ll post some pics when it is done…
In fact, I did mine after seeing Pesky’s.
Only mine is better
Erm… certo di si!
E poi si ci sono anche quei bucchi.
Vedi qua e anche qua .
Sono dei threads vecchi dove parlo di questo.
Besides, as mentioned, look on bookatrack’s gallery (under my name), you’ll see many handy pics of the mods mentioned.
Ciao!
Thanks Uldis, I’ve also seen your brake ventilation system… wow, really a great job!!!
ma sei un italiano “importato”?
comunque dove hai preso quelle campane per il raffreddamento dei dischi?
ciao e grazie ancora
No swearing !!
