:lolno: :lolno: :lolno:

That does just look daft imho, sorry.

Btw, the exige IS just an elise with wings and spoiler, other than that its slightly firmer dampers and wheels and tyres which are easily doable to an elise… the sports racer elise has exactly the same dampers fitted as standard. Only the Exige S is slightly different due to the high level IC which you can’t do but there are plenty of after market tuners to give similar power levels.

To answer the other thread I bought an exige (after owning and driving many other loti) for the race car feel it gave, most of this is caused by being a hard top which gives alot more vibration and noise in the cabin. If I took the roof off it would feel like an elise, so if I had wanted to take the roof off I would of bought one of those and had a car that actually looks good without a roof.

You do feel very little about your Exige eh? :stuck_out_tongue: Why would anyone pay so much more for a car that in your opinion is just an Elise with a plastic spoiler bolted to the boot lid??!

The Exige is quite a bit more than that. Just off the top of my head the visuals alone:

  • Wider front Clam allowing wider track/wider wheels?
  • Sloping Engine cover rather than the rear window (more aggressive IMO)
  • Different rear clam
  • Air Scoop at top of the roll bar
  • Hardtop with scoop

That’s just cosmetic.

Mine was an Elise, but now fitted Exige clams (along with a host of other stuff).

As above, they are fundamentally the same car.

So basically wings and spoilers? Wider front track? Sadly not, same as S2 only the wheels are wider at the front.
It’s not about feeling nothing about my exige, actually I feel quite strongly about it which is why the exige should be left as an exige and an Elise an elise.
I am just stating facts that there is actually bodywork aside very little in it. The worst thing lotus did with the S2 and V6 is use a removable panel for the roof. They should of done it like the S1 where unless you are RussT on the pit straight the roof is a fixed panel.

Boothy

How does all that just come under “Wings and Spoilers?!” Both front and rear claims are different, the roof is different, the engine cover is different, the roll bar cover is different, the access panels are different, the front splitter is different, the side scoops are different. Even the bloody vents are different. What’s left? In fact what body panels are the same on the Elise and Exige? Doors?

Purely on a aesthetic level an Exige with a soft top looks so wrong to me to the point that I get a bit cross when I see people do it but that’s just my 2p .

I agree I just don’t like the look either, somehow it is just wrong :frowning:

It does look rubbish with the soft top fitted, agreed

First priority for me
Measure 8 times, cut with dremel
Glue in inserts
Piece of cake

The point is its very slight aesthetic differences unlike the S1 which is quite a lot different, those aesthetic differences like the raised rear for the engine cover are thrown totally out of balance by removing the roof. Coupled with that you then knacker any aero advantages the body is designed to give…
So basically you make it look shit and then ruin the advantage of owning an exige in order to make it feel like an elise when you are driving it…
I just don’t get it

Going off what you have said on this and the other thread most of your motivation for buying the exige was aesthetics, but then you have removed the spoiler and the roof and you have just admitted it looks pants with a soft top.

I just don’t get the whole concept of buying something purely because you like the look of it only to spoil the looks and performance to make it do something it was not really designed to… Much better to buy the car that was designed to do it in the first place and spend a little improving the look me thinks.

Oh and yes, I am shit hot at winding people up, its a gift, what can I say :smiling_imp:

I think Mark beats you hands down for winding people up. :wtf:

I dont quite understand why Mark is getting slightly offended by the comments. As the owner of the car he can do what ever he likes but if he is going to go fishing by posting pictures he shouldn’t be surprised when he catches a fish. And yes i did get the last sentence from a pound shop cracker.

I think you missed the point, I am not wound up in the slightest. I was just playing, hence the :smiling_imp: and the

I dangled a carrot and he bit, as I said its a gift.

 Trust me I’m not getting wound up. I posted up that picture with the soft top fitted knowing exactly the sort of comments I’d get.

Still disagree with Boothy though  But I’m grown up enough to respect everyone has an opinion and just because it may differ from your own doesn’t mean they are being an arse towards you.

But back on the subject. I love having an Exige and I’m more than happy I did buy one rather than another Elise. I’ve had three of them in various guises and thats probably why I can appreciate the Exige is more than just a hardtop. And taking the hardtop off certainly doesn’t make the Exige an Elise! It just means on the one or two days a year I can enjoy a bit of top down motoring with the added benefit of being able to hear the wonderful noise. Yes it doesn’t look as good with the roof off, but I don’t give a monkeys, I enjoy driving it with the roof off when its sunny and that’s all I care about  And before you say I shouldn’t have bought an Elise then, not for two days a year! As for it adversely affecting the aerodynamics, well I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference on the road

Exact same reason I bought an Exige, best of both worlds (looks and roof off driving)

“Aero advantage”, thats made me chuckle.
