Silverstone GP June 29th - LOT & Lotus Cars

Day is for Lotus product only, and is being run in conjunction with Lotus Cars.

I’ve booked. Anyone else going.

Im booked in.

Last chance before flying back to the other side of the world :frowning:

How have I missed this, will check on LoT later.

I’ll be there as well. Should be a great day.

How could you not be there :frowning:. Sounds a good day and I might even persuade MrG to drive my car as he is over from NZ.
We must remind him what UK trackdays are like… shame he races a “rice burner” down under, :astonished:

Just signed up.

1 place left.

Took a few pics after lunch.

Much better images than the official Track Photo people, all of their’s seemed bleached out and over exposed.

Nice pictures

Agreed - nice pictures Mark and you even got Pesky with some contrast !

Before anyone asks - that was the instructor waving people past, my roof was firmly attached

As many of you know, yesterday was first time driving the circuit, a last minute decision - tempted by it being a LOT day, & loads of great peeps were booked on.

Really did enjoy it, although I’m not at all keen on the sections after Bridge. If I go again, I’ll deffo grab some instruction. Personally, I like to have a good idea of the track layout, before having instruction, & Silverstone GP is a blooming big track with 17 corners.

It was incredibly hot in the cockpit yesterday, I could only manage 4 to 6 laps session before I felt very, very uncomfortable.

Was great to see many of exiges.com there, & big thanks to Russ’s “Lambogenie Team” who looked after us with drinks etc throughout the day.

PS Mark, ta for the pics :sunglasses:

First time for me at Silverstone, never mind the GP circuit, I will (now) always remember the words at the briefing, you will not learn the lines here at Silverstone in one session… but be careful coming out of Woodcote, if you get a rear wheel on the grass it will spit you across into the pit wall… (go straight to Woodcote, below !).

Copse
You need balls for this.
With no reference to speed I tried entering Copse in 2 ways, first dropping to 3rd and driving through, clipping the apex and running tight and secondly staying in 4th and lifting off, staying in 4th seemed better.

Maggots
Was told to take it in 4th flat out, errrrrrr no thanks mate, brake then into 3rd and power my way through, one instance too much power saw the approaching right hander much quite quicker than I first thought, backing off during this move just exaggerated the poor line. When I did get a good line out the power could be put down with confidence.

Beckets
Nailing the exit right at Maggots gave a good entry into Chapel. I choose to exit Beckets in 2 ways.
Way 1 existing to the left (by the green cone) gave me more speed out of Maggots but had to lift off the power as Chapel loomed…
Way 2 was to exit a tad slower and enter Chapel mid track much better imho

Chapel
Not lifting off sooner had me with 2 wheels on the grass going down Hanger Straight, enter Chapel mid track set me up ideally for Hanger Straight.

Hanger Straight
Flat out in 4th with the occasional need (for some reason) to change up into 5th (all for 1 second only to change down again…)

Stowe
Big balls again
I tried various ways of entering Stowe, all seemed different, but the best allrounder seemed to enter mid track exiting I could have been (and was) anywhere !.

Club
Entering Club was I found very tight and was undecided between 3rd and 4th, but ended up 9 times out of 10 in 3rd.

Abbey
Entry and exit in 3rd, but careful with the power on exit as the very hard blockwork wall was only a couple of meters away from the racing line down into Bridge.

Bridge
Not sure if entry into Bridge was flat out in 4th, but I bottled it and entered Bridge in 3rd and had great torque up to Priory.

Priory
For me Priory was a great corner, entering in 3rd and using the mid point of the track all the way through

Brooklands
As Priory

Luffield

Best Forgotten

Woodcote
I remembered the words at the briefing as I exited Woodcote onto the main straight and now understood what he meant…
I exited Woodcote and stayed too far left and put the power down, I entered the main straight carrying too much speed and was being drawn over to the grass edge where you must not put two wheels on the grass otherwise you will be spat out across the track and into pit wall.
So, there I was on the main straight with 2 wheels on the grass thinking jeeeeeezusssssss fuckin Christ when I just lifted off a tad and steered back onto the track.
After that I made sure my line out of Woodcote was as close to the upright deflectors on the right side as you exit and just unwound and headed mid track down the straight (better safe than sorry).

Best bit: Maggots through to Chappel
Worst bit: Luffield, Woodcote

A tough track, a bloody tough track, a very technical great track and one I would like to spend more time on.

Just get new tyres/brake pads and disks.

Only done two days at SS, one in the CSL and one in the Exige.

There is lots of time to be taken off this, but my day was enoyable…

Rob your too modest - I have the video

Yeah I was kinda 50:50 about Silverstone and my first runs didnt help … I was a moving obstruction !

However MarkA helped with some damper settings and suddenly it got a lot better and some good instruction from Neil helped a lot.

Best bit is the noise limit is ok

Nah, must have been when I chucked the keys to Randy…

PS Damper settings? I’ve not altered mine for 2 years now, & to be honest I’ve absolutely no idea whatsoever what clickage they’re on. As long as the car feels okay, I drive it as it is, cos I’m not into timing, & I’m certainly no racing god. Same with tyre pressures really, just set them at 26psi all round after a session, so they’re “hot” & they feel right! Eat your heart out Ross! At the end of the day, the Edwards Boyz geo tweaking, plus minor tyre pressure fiddlin by me sets it all up for an enjoyable trackday!

So How do I upload a 3Gb HD video :astonished:

Slowly - ha ha

3gb?

You should be able to compress to less than that. What editing software are you using?

Nice to see a good turnout of Exige.com members and an extra surprise to find UNK had made it … Glad you enjoyed yourself Rob …there you see , Silverstone is not as boring as you expected!!
Good grief it was hot  and the "mobile radiators " S1’s were a tad warm inside.
The sight of cars travelling through Copse at 100+ is quite exhilerating when you are ahead of the pack… TRAVELLING BACKWARDS thank JS for GP circuit wide runoffs :astonished:
Thanks also to Martin and Steve for superb preparation of my car…

Hi Clive

Really great to see you & Mr G again. You were driving very quickly, & especially through the sections, which I struggled with. You’re a credit, & a hero to the “blue rinse mob”

Editing software ???

That may just be the first problem … any you can download ?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

Not used it myself as I am on a Mac and have bought software.

The main thing is to process the compression on the file for the web and it will reduce the size of the file without compromising the quality of the video.

The other option is to try something like Quicktime Pro, which will allow you to export and compress.

I use the Vimeo video hosting service and it has a good guide to the settings here
