RED LINE is a bit vague as the Lotus speedometer doesn’t show one[/quote]
From my Lotus owners handbook …This isn’t vague…
Max. continuous engine speed 8000 rpm (8500 transient)
Peak power (SAE DIN 70020) 190 bhp (141.7 kW) @
7,800 rpm
Peak torque (SAE DIN 70020) 138 lbf.ft (187 Nm) @
6,800 rpm
Personally, I’d be keeping an eye on the rev counter, not the speedo…
Lol of course, the right word to use was “tachometer”
@frank, thanks!
Anyone who does any regular amount of track driving and tries hard enough to have a smile on their face and hasn’t fluffed at least one gear change in all that time is just lying, simple.
The people on here who are droning on about how their shit don’t stink and being perfect drivers, need to probably actually get out and drive a bit more!!
Just my opinion of course!
on the fence as always…

neither will help with buzzing though?

Spot on, as was pointed out earlier in the thread but drowned out by the howls of Peter Perfect.
Now, you lot, leave this thread and answer my ‘Air intake Grill’ thread.
I’ve messed up loads of gearchanges, whilst on track, but fortunately none have caused the engine to over rev ie no buzzing for me (although the “free pass” is due later this year )
Me to , but I try not to go round end stopping the limiter, Lap after lap , after lap, but there you go!!

Don’t know about being perfect, we all make mistakes - however if your mistake makes the engine do something it is not designed to do and this leads to engine damage, then I’d agree that this may / should not be covered under warranty, and may be concidered the fault of the user / driver.
I think the issue most people seemed to have wasn’t with not making omistakes, rather with the expectation that if you make a mistake then you shouldn’t be liable for fixing what you have broken…
Hope you find the grills you want

It’s not just perfect, it’s the lean mean grilling machine
Hey I don’t make mistakes I make repairs…
I drive the shit out of my car but I know and take the responsibility for my actions, I don’t put thousands of miles on it and then blame the engine because I don’t know how to shift…
If you wanna beat the crap out of your car on a track be prepared to make the same repairs a “real” race car will need when stressed to the limit…
I’m in the middle of a complete engine rebuild after runing the engine as hard as most Lotus racers but with twice the power, guess what the piston wrist pins can’t take the constant high rpm torque loads and they flex and break.
But I’m not blaming Wisceo for their lighter weight tapered wrist pins or Carrillo for their small end rod bushings…no it’s my fault for pushing the engine to find it’s current limit…
The new engine will be stronger not faster…

Exactly my point
Frank this is of no concern to you, as you don’t change gear anyway!!
A low blow matey…I did once back in the mid seventies but I try not to think about it due to the missed shift and leaking oil… :tired:
John, you know that Audi box?
Does it come in Automatic?

Hey - we appear to be back on topic with this now…
My take on the original postings was that the engine has a rev limit (not sure whether soft or hard) set at 8.5k but the engine will survive an over rev to 10k (again I assume that this has additional parameters set with it). As such the odd buzzing of the engine may well still be within transient parameters of the engine.
Designing an engine with such a setup seems entirely sensible to me, as the majority of owners will test these design limits accidently as some time.
