Cant drive? Then dont buy a Lotus imho.

I had a 111R that broke a valve spring at about 2500 miles. No excess revs. Other than at tickover it was impossible to tell.

Factory shouldn’t say engine is good for 10K rpm (as alleged), if it isn’t.

However, I didn’t post the link to have a go at Lotus Factory, Dealer or the owner - just thought it was the sort of incident peeps here would appreciate hearing about.

not good, but he has buzzed the engine and there have been problems with cam lobe wear known for a long time on the 2ZZ :frowning:

Oh, I agree mate. Looks like someone got through 3 engines in less than 30,000 miles

It was actually 3 engines, 1 every 25-30000 miles.
I bought the car minus eng and box and its now having an SC eng and lots of other bits fitted as we speak!!! Inc exige bodywork

Multitasking again Dave? Bloody show off!

Yep, i stand corrected. Bloody bad form though.

No offense Ade, but the term ‘buzzed engine’ is something of a seloc-ism, used by tossers that cant drive (i.e. not you mate)

I’ve little sympathy for what happend (no really!!) you must need to be pretty stupid to allow that to happen.

/runs off to touch large piece of wood :astonished:

Look like someone can’t drive , and suffers with a bad case of Mansellitis!!!IMHO

Buzzed is not a Seloc word, you will find it is quite common for over revving an engine, especially caused by downshifting instead of up :frowning:

A few comments here seem a little harsh - I thought you could buzz when downshifting and getting 2 instead of 4 quite easily in some cars especially if you are tracking regularly with a g/box with less than perfect adjustment in the shifters.

^^^^^^ what he said.

And if you can’t do the basics, or maintain your car to allow ‘it’ to do the basics, then the ‘user’ should probably stay at home and not do track days, till he can !!!

Lotus never said the 2ZZ can take 10K rpm, these chumps are fools that have no idea how to drive… The rev limit is 8,200rpm…Hello LIMIT and that is really over the limit of the stock valve springs… Toyota rated the 2ZZ limit at 7,800 rpm and there are no reports of any Celica owners screwin up the cams and valve train…

First and foremost every Lotus owner with a 2ZZ engine should have the valve lash checked and make sure they are all in spec… It’s hard to believe but Lotus don’t require checking the valve clearance at any time/mileage except for cam replacement…This should be a service requirement…

Seloc…they make me laugh…

Funnily enough I think it was the guy who posted about the three engine failures was mentioned to me at a recent meet as being shall we say not very mechanically sympathetic…

Have you got your manpons in this week Tim or what

Manpons
Love it.

But are they Maxi ?

From some of the comments on here looks like there are some driving Gods who never make mistakes. Its a wonder they have time to post on a forum, thought they would be out testing cars for F1 teams ,WRC rally teams at the very least.
