Ha! That feels like a familiar sentiment!
Soā¦ my R888Rs are about dead, and I am not a fan of my āwet weatherā AD08Rs on a dry trackā¦ Iām tempted to go for A052s as an all-weather tyre, but what size? 195 on the front or 205? 225 or 235 on the rear? Any advice welcome!!!
The A052s are on my list as well. Will be interested to see what your thoughts are
2 of the guys I usually track with have them - and they seem very fast on them in the dry, and theyāre better in the wet than the R888R from what I can tell? Iām going to give them a whirl, just debating what size to try to get a little more grip without upsetting things too muchā¦
Apparently the Elise Cup 260 uses 205 fronts and 235 rears from the factory, so it canāt be a dreadful idea, surely?
My AD08RS are in 205/235 fitment. They look rather chunky!
Havenāt driven them hard to check for clearance issues, but āstaticā they fit fine and as you say the later cup cars run this size.
Iād love to run some track rubber in those sizes but Iām already mashing arch liners with 195s
Second hand reports of a052 are very very grippy (some auto cross series in the US have banned them!) But life expectancy is rather poor.
I can cope with that!
Ordered some A052 in standard sizes - easier to see how they directly compare to my current setup and work from thereā¦ will let you know when I try them on track
A052 are being fitted right now - took the opportunity to weigh them vs the old R888R (which are well worn!)
R888R front - 9.0KG
R888R rear - 10.9KG
A052 front - 8.5KG
A052 rear - 9.5KG
So thatās a 4KG saving!
Impressive
Iāve passengered in an S1 Elise quite recently who was running these tyres and they were mind blowing, obviously the car is much lighter than mine too but itās was borderline criminal on how late he could brake and turn-in on them.
Well, next track day is at the end of the month, so Iāll get a few road miles on them first and let you know
Most interesting that 75% of that weight loss is from the rears!?!
AD052 are on my list for replacements. Be very interested to see how you get on.
I donāt normally go on social media, and just found these posts from Track Group when they were building my engine!
Hub Dyno:
Bench Dyno:
Nothing compares with the 2ZZ in its naturally aspirated version ! Just love this engine !!
How many bhp did you get from this engine ?
They tuned mine for usable torque, rather than headline horsepower figures, but it ran on bench and hub dynos on hot days - came out at 210bhp both timesā¦
If I had my time again, Iād start with just the gearbox, then move on from there when I wanted to tinkerā¦ but itās just such a big expense to suck up at the start of your journey, but worth it
Anyone else fitted the T7Design heater replacement? Just used the car today and found that my heater fan has stopped working now, and as the āhot/coldā mixer has not worked for a couple of years, I thought I might just ditch the whole thing and replace with that unit?
Anyone got any experience of it?
Itās this one: https://www.t7design.co.uk/vx220-s2-elise-replacement-heater-kit-rhd-3d5-4c7-780.html
Following with interest!
Ordered it now, so will see how it goes when it arrivesā¦
< rubs hands >
Fantastic! Be following it closely.
